Massive participation in the activities of the Archeology and Museums Area in 2023

In 2023, the Area of ​​Archeology and Museums began an annual program with campaigns on diverse and multidisciplinary themes, which involved all museum facilities, as well as the castle. Throughout the year they have managed to get thousands of people to participate in the initiatives, according to the statistics they have collected in the department.

In total, more than 5.000 people attended the events during this period. The start date of the programming was failures, with six expert-guided tours of the heritage facilities, attracting almost 200 people. Subsequently and under the heading "Week of passion for the heritage and museums of Dénia", a program of 17 tours guided by experts was carried out, with an attendance of nearly 500 people. The entity has described this moment as "a success, considering that the campaign was carried out for the first time."

In addition, a series of visits to the castle were offered, which went beyond the classic "Discover Dénia Castle" (the most requested) and included visits such as "Dénia seen from above. Palaces, Museum and Celler", as well as "El Castillo de Dénia, the fortress from the outside. History and restoration projects", which allowed us to tour part of the fortress on the walls and crenellated towers that closed the medieval city.

The guided tours also explored the World of Toys of Dénia, and deepened the link of "Dénia and the sea: a history of discoveries in the Museum of the Sea". Finally, in the splendor of the 19th century with the visit to the Ethnological museum from Dénia with the title "Between lace and raisins."

In 2023, for the first time, they participated in the International Archeology Conference with the organization of a walk through the heart of the Islamic medina ending in an archaeological intervention that brought the audience closer to the main urban features of the medina and the characteristics of architecture and household goods.

On the other hand, the month of May hosted the celebration of International Museum Day, with two open days at the castle and museums, as well as two guided tours with an expert. The purpose was to expose the origin and history of the city's museums.

Already during the summer campaign, more than 2.600 people participated in the offer that covered the castle and all the museums, with a novelty: a daily visit from Monday to Sunday in English (for the international public), which had good results. of audience.

Autumn brought with it the events commemorating October 9, which in 2023 focused on the Conquered Cities with two conferences around "Daniya, 40 years of Salvage Archaeology" and with a series of three guided tours that brought together a group of more than 150 people.

Another novelty developed in 2023, with good response from the public, were the two observations of our night sky from the castle by an astronomer and an art historian. More than 140 people had the opportunity to get close to the summer sky of their ancestors and also the winter sky, this time focusing on the star of Bethlehem. Next, the All Saints' Day offered the opportunity to make four visits focused on death in Dénia throughout history, with more than 145 registered participants.

The year closed with the campaign "A Christmas for history". More than 300 visitors enjoyed various activities that involved all the city's museum facilities: the presentation of the painting The charity, by Domingo Llorens, after the restoration of the work (Ethnological Museum); the exhibition «From Hollywood to Dénia. The museum's cinematographic toys » (Toy Museum); the exhibition with conference and audiovisual on the Saturnalia that was held at the end of the year in the Roman Dianium (Museum of the Sea); the conference "Daniya. 40 years of Salvage Archeology" (Archaeological Museum).

La Christmas programming It was completed with the presentation of «Emilio Oliver Sanz de Bremond. 100 years a life", a sample of the legacy of the Deniero historian that could be visited in December and will now reopen its doors to the public. In addition, the annual programming of the Archeology and Museums Area was rounded off with guided tours within the "Family Activities" program, which brought together more than 150 participants during 2023.

February programming

The good reception of the programming of the Area of ​​Archeology and Museums 2023 has prompted the extension of the activities throughout this year, incorporating new features.

In the month of February, an approach to the Roman festival of Lupercalia is proposed under the name "The Lupercalia and the ritual of purification." The precedent of Carnival?». In this way, containers and utensils from the Dianium kitchens and tables will be presented to the public, vast scar, and a mini-conference accompanied by audiovisuals. This activity will take place at the Museum of the Sea, on Saturday, February 10 (12:00) and Thursday, February 15 (19:00 p.m.).

This month's program also includes the guided tour "Discover the Castle. The collection of Islamic ceramics» (February 3 and 18, 12:00, meeting point: Dénia castle, in front of the ticket kiosk). On this route you will see the remains of the medieval palace and the Renaissance extension developed by Lerma, the duke who was Marquis of Dénia. Exclusively, the basement will be opened to admire the impressive collection of ceramics from the Daniya of the XNUMXth and XNUMXth centuries.

«From Hollywood to Dénia. "The Cinematic Toys" (February 4 and 25, 12:00) is a guided tour of a selection of toys that exhibit the image of prominent Hollywood actors from the XNUMXs, XNUMXs and XNUMXs of the last century, and the collection of Walt Disney characters, a series of toys produced by a factory in Dénia that obtained the exclusive rights to make wooden reproductions.

A guided tour of the painting "La Caridad de Domingo Llorens" will take place at the Ethnological Museum (February 17 and 24, 12:00). Here you can see the work of the painter Llorens in all its splendor. The guided tour will allow an approach to the work, the artist and his time, as well as the restoration process.

To conclude the February programme, from the 18th to the 29th, you can visit the collection "The legacy of Emilio Oliver Sanz de Bremond (1923-2023)" at the Casa de la Marquesa Valero in Palma (calle de Cavallers, 3) . In addition, within the 'Family Activities' program, on February 11, at 10:30, the guided tour "La Dénia de Madoz, an unprecedented trip to the city of 1847" will be held, which will depart from the Plaza del Advice.
