These are all the initiatives in Dénia to celebrate International Book Day

23 2024 April - 13: 19

Today, Tuesday, April 23, marks International Book Day, a date proposed by UNESCO in 1995 to promote the reading and exchange of books around the world. In this context, the city of Dénia has organized various activities to celebrate this anniversary in an inclusive and participatory way.

In the Municipal Market, the Department of Markets, in collaboration with the Housewives Association, has launched an initiative to give a second life to used books. Thanks to the generosity of the association, which has donated books for display in the center of the market, anyone can come until April 27 and take a book for free. This activity not only celebrates Book Day, but also stimulates purchases in the market and encourages the reuse of books.

The Market Councilor, María José García, has highlighted the importance of this initiative and has encouraged citizens to participate, highlighting that in addition to finding quality local products, visitors can get a good gift in the form of a book.

On the other hand, the Mayor's Department has organized the activity "The Tales of the Yayos", where older people had the opportunity to share reading with students from local schools, thus enriching the generational exchange and promoting the value of reading from different perspectives.

In the field of youth, the JOOP youth group has designed a special day to motivate and guide young people between 16 and 21 years old. On this occasion, they visited the Santa Llúcia residence to give flowers to the residents and read the phrases written on each flower, strengthening intergenerational ties and promoting sensitivity towards reading.

The municipal Library has also joined the celebration with a week full of activities for all ages. These include exhibitions on the importance of books, children's workshops such as the "Equality Story Laboratory", aimed at children from 3 years old, and the presentation of the book Assegut to the right of the pare by the writer Jovi Lozano, winner of the Isabel de Villena award for fiction in Valencian in 2023.

In addition, storytellers have been programmed such as "Workshop of emotions through stories" and "Of love and death", aimed at audiences of different ages, thus providing a wide cultural offer to celebrate the pleasure of reading in Dénia during this special week dedicated to Book Day.
