La Hemodialysis Unit of the Hospital de Dénia it cares for about 230 patients and offers about 14.000 treatments a year. The room has 22 dialysis stations and 4 isolation stations, in which up to 156 patients with kidney disease can be treated weekly, in 3 daily shifts.
In addition, this unit offers care to citizens of other provinces, autonomous communities and countries who travel to the Marina Alta and require dialysis service.
Chronic kidney patients spend an average of 4 hours a day, 3 days a week in the Hemodialysis Unit. Therefore, the Hospital, framed within the humanization project, has set up a activity program to promote their physical and emotional health, as well as make attendance more enjoyable.
- Psychocreative gymnastics: It is a series of physical exercises with instruments that they can do in the chair or in bed, during the time they receive the treatment. The low-impact exercises are performed with soft elements such as balls or rubber bands and are designed taking into account the specific characteristics of this type of patient, with very reduced mobility during the sessions.
- Art workshops for patients: music therapy, psychocreative therapy and laughter therapy aimed at working with the potentialities and capacities of the individual in order to promote improvements in their mood. And that are part of the cuidArt program of the Dénia Hospital.
Likewise, the Nephrology Unit has the treatment of Plasmapheresis o plasma exchange. A technique that consists of passing the blood, through an extracorporeal circuit, through a filter with special characteristics that separates the blood cells (red blood cells, white blood cells and platelets) from the plasma, eliminating toxic substances and replacing it with an albumin solution or fresh plasma. Plasmapheresis is especially indicated in acute cases of autoimmune diseases to eliminate circulating antibodies, present in the blood, that damage the body. Certain diseases can benefit from a treatment maintained over time until the patient is stabilized.
