The second presentation, by Dr. Ángel Mateu, head of the hospital's demyelinating diseases consultation, will focus on the most recent advances in treatments for recurrent and progressive forms of multiple sclerosis.

This event, open free of charge to health professionals, patients and their families, will conclude with a practical workshop for attendees, led by Vanessa Llorca Llinares, Neuropsychologist at the Neurology Service of the Hospital of Dénia, and Joana Alentado, Primary Care Nurse.

Multiple sclerosis is a neurodegenerative condition that affects the central nervous system and manifests itself with inflammation and demyelination of neurons, triggering a wide variety of symptoms that include alterations in vision, mobility, sensitivity and balance.

In Spain, multiple sclerosis occupies second place among the most prevalent neurological diseases in young adults, only after migraine, affecting approximately 50,000 people throughout the country. In the Valencian Community, this disease also occurs relatively frequently, affecting about 5,000 people in the region.

Despite notable advances in treatments in recent years, which have made it possible to control the disease and delay its progression, multiple sclerosis remains a chronic condition which can impose significant limitations on the lives of those who suffer from it.

For this reason, it is crucial that patients access the information and support necessary to lead as normal a life as possible. The II Update Day on Multiple Sclerosis at the Dénia Hospital promises to be an invaluable opportunity to achieve this goal.
