The Department of Health of Dénia begins the vaccination campaign against respiratory syncytal virus

03 October 2023 - 15: 58

This week marks the start of a major vaccination campaign in the Department of Health of Dénia aimed at the most vulnerable population: children from 0 to 2 years old. More than 4.700 children of the Marina Alta will benefit from this initiative that seeks to protect them from Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) and avoid serious complications.

RSV, a virus that last winter caused more than 1.200 hospitalizations among the child population of the Valencian Community, is a challenge that should not be underestimated. According to Dr. Josep Mut, Head of Pediatrics of the Department of Health of Dénia, "immunization against RSV has been shown to be effective in preventing serious infections and can reduce hospitalizations in young children by up to 70%. Administering the vaccine early is essential to protect the most vulnerable and prevent serious health complications" .

RSV is especially common among children under 2 years of age because their lungs are still developing. This infection can trigger bronchiolitis and pneumonia, manifesting with symptoms such as cough, difficulty breathing, fever and runny nose. It is crucial to take preventive measures to protect the little ones.

The Dénia Health Department has implemented a vaccination plan that guarantees quality care. For neonates, the dose will be administered in hospital as part of standard procedures, ensuring babies start life with an extra layer of protection against RSV from the first moment.

For other children aged 0-2 years, The campaign will be carried out in the Primary Care of the health department. If you already have an appointment scheduled, the vaccine will be administered as part of that appointment. For those who do not have a scheduled appointment, the Dénia Health Department has established an appointment system to coordinate the administration of the dose and ensure that all children are protected.

The data from the Department of Universal Health and Public Health of the Generalitat Valenciana reveal that last winter there were more than 1.200 hospitalizations due to RSV in the Valencian Community, of which more than a thousand affected children under 12 months of age. The peak of hospitalizations was recorded in March, with 482 admissions.

In the Marina Alta, with 4.737 children under 2 years of age, representing 2,58% of the population of the region, The protection of our little ones is essential. Dénia tops the list with 1.200 children in this age group, followed by Xàbia, with a thousand; Calp with 730, and other towns such as Teulada, with 400 or Benissa, Pego, Gata de Gorgos and Xaló that also join this vital campaign.

I have tried to cancel the appointment I had at ophthalmology. The first time, after waiting a while they hung up on me without saying anything.
The second time, after waiting again, a lady finally answers. I tell him that I won't be able to keep my appointment. She tells me a moment, please. After a moment they hang up on me, I keep waiting just in case it comes back but no, after a while the sound of communicating changes to a piercing and unbearable whistle.

I just wanted to be correct and cancel my appointment, but it was impossible. Then they will blackball patients who do not come to their appointment and do not notify
