Neighbors and businessmen of Dénia despair with the paralyzed work on the Marqués de Campo site

February 08 from 2024 - 08: 00

In 2021, the brand new project that would occupy the Marqués de Campo site was announced, and the majority of residents eagerly waited for it to materialize. The reception was more than justified, since the old clinic located on the site was demolished, the site remained fenced and full of weeds until It was acquired by the Dénia City Council in 2018, who cleaned it and opened it to pedestrians, with an eternal underlying promise to give it the value it deserves for being located in such an emblematic area. But for five years now there has only been a vacant lot of land.

The neighbors are tired of seeing how everything continues to stand still, because the wait since the works finally started has worsened their situation. After the announcement at the end of 2021 of the winning project of a competition announced with great fanfare, the resulting green area was left in the air. We already knew what they were going to put on the lot, but months passed and there was no more news about it. The City Council indicated that the delay was due to the lack of materials derived from the conflict in Europe. And when it seemed that the market was returning to normal, a new obstacle: no one wanted to take charge of the project.

An odyssey that never ends

In April of last year, the first competition was finally published for companies to apply to begin construction. The budget was approximately 740.000 euros, which was not enough to satisfy any company. It was left empty and they had to increase the budget to 775.926 euros to reissue the tender. This time there was interest and the Alicante company Construcciones Porticada SL won the contract.

At the beginning of December, the 4th to be exact, The City Council officially announced the start of the works, with the required photo broadcast on all possible communication channels.. The odyssey was finally going to conclude, which, however, was far from over. Without prior notice, the works stopped shortly after, after filling the site with excavations and fencing the area again. The workers disappeared, but a huge fence has remained that makes it difficult to pass through, and hides, the Carrer de l'Estació, a portable toilet that continues to wear out and an endless amount of junk.

Neighborhood unrest

The site is once again a useless wasteland, but on this occasion it has taken over one of the surrounding streets to the despair of local residents and businessmen, who in conversations with this newspaper have shown their helplessness when they see that the promise of having a space green in four months disappears and the dream becomes a nightmare.

The fence hides their businesses, but also makes access to them difficult by not allowing more than one person to pass through at a time, not to mention cars or chairs for people with reduced mobility. In fact, they say that they witnessed the fall of a woman with a walker when she was trying to give way to a car halfway through.

The workers have disappeared from the site, as we said, but some from outside continue to appear from time to time to use the bathroom they have left there. Which, in addition, is surrounded by the remains of trees ripped out in front of the entrance to the Joguet Museum, almost two months ago.

The local people still do not know what has happened and what will happen to the lot. The Councilor for Urban Planning, Maria Josep Ripoll, has attended to us and, although it has confirmed that, indeed, there will be a delay in the estimated completion date of the works, it insists that they are pushing for the company to return to activity as soon as possible, remembering that they are responsible for complying the deadlines. The reason for the absence of workers is because the concessionaire is making calculations to take advantage of the foundation of the old ambulatory that has come to light again with the first excavations and thus use it for the placement of the future pergolas in the square.

In any case, key dates are approaching for many businesses, such as Mig Any, Fallas and Easter, but they assume that they will continue in the shadow of a paralyzed work that was expected to be finished in April and will not be. Now they are crossing their fingers that it ends before summer.

It is a joke to see the management of the Denia town hall, a pearl that now there are empty premises labeled with photos and tourist landscapes in the windows just to give an attractive image but the truth is that the business is closed and it is a reality, it would not be better help instead of spending money foolishly

  2. It says:

One more from this City Council and the “fantastic” management of the Urban Planning Councilor.
Where has all that money gone?
At the moment we have a garbage dump on the most emblematic avenue in Denia, no one is ashamed and no one is able to recognize their mistakes, just lies and more lies.
This is how we are with our progress.
    Shameful

    • Paco says:

They read the news and on top of that they don't find out, that's insulting and defaming if they know. Read!!

      • It says:

        Dear Paco
        Your “colors” are noticeable
Of course I have read, that's why I think.
Not like others who see insults and defamations where there are none.

Carré Centaure (Pedrera Montgó) is also a mosaic of this type. When will this road be paved?

  4. Fortuna says:

Transparency is what is needed. Over and over again works in general "open, close", fix, do something else on what exists... Disappointment and unnecessary expense

  5. Hans-Joachim Kuhl says:

This Regierung in Denia ist unfähig. Das beweist sie immer wieder.

  6. Francisca says:

It is not a question of acronyms, it is not stingy with the budget and that a serious company is in charge and they were paid well. The town councils have European funds that are for these things, summer will come and Denia has to be impeccable, it is our image that serves as claim for tourism since Denia has opted only for the mistake but it has little remedy, we need that green space that will give charisma to the street, and the trees in the station could not be pruned instead of uprooting them, we need trees in all the streets since summer is already coming with high temperatures and more control and fines against those who do not respect the cleanliness of the streets, the street of the very popular road also needs a review, some wooden pergolas with bunganvillas would not be bad and would not They would cost a lot, in summer the sunshine on that street is not inviting, in short we need more ideas, there is money to take advantage of them to improve the city

    • Jopelin says:

Note that Francisca when expressing: "it's not a question of acronyms"... she is actually saying that she has voted for this very progressive City Council and that Dénia has a total disorder of mandate.
Of course, for pink benches, flags and various lights, the first to place.
