04 December 2023 - 14: 54

The signing of the rethinking document has meant the beginning of the works for the construction of a new plaza on the site of the old Dénia outpatient clinic. The Territorial Councilor, Maria Josep Ripoll, explained that the first works on the site will focus on making coves for study the characteristics of the terrain and plan the work. It is expected that no setbacks will arise and that the deadlines for this "long-awaited action" will be met without problems.

The company Construcciones Porticada, SL was awarded the works at a cost of 938.871,13 euros, with VAT included. A decision that was made at the Local Government Board on November 2. This cost is within the framework of the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan, financed by the European Union through NextGeneration EU funds. An estimated execution period of 4 months for these works.

This will be the new green space in Dénia

The project for the new plaza has been prepared by architect Carlos Chacón Pérez, from the DVCH DevillarChacón Arquitectos studio. Its main objectives are to renew the urban landscape, promote social interaction, increase pedestrian activity in traditional commercial areas and return spaces for enjoyment to citizens, creating areas for walking and recreation.

The design includes a peripheral ring populated with species adapted to the local climate and a central ring delimited with pergolas that support tensioned cables to deploy awnings that provide shade. This central area will be made of compacted and well-drained earth, while the perimeter ring will be equipped with local cobblestone paving and concrete benches. The proposal includes the integration of Carrer de l'Estació, eliminating vehicle parking to prioritize pedestrian and cyclist mobility.

The project completes its design with vegetation, children's play areas and a stage or podium in the southern part of the site, which faces Calderón Street. The planned vegetation consists of climbing plants and some trees that will invade the perimeter walk area, generating shadows, aromas, freshness and color. It is a vegetation with low water consumption, Mediterranean species, temperate climate and low maintenance.

The Dénia City Council acquired the site of the old ambulatory in December 2018 and conditioned the plot in February 2019 so that it could be enjoyed by citizens. The project to create a green space on this site was the winner of a public consultation carried out in 2020, through the Regidoría de Participació Ciutadana, to find out the preferences regarding the design and uses of this space. Once the use of the site was decided, a design project competition was held, with architect Carlos Chacón Pérez winning.

Good place to celebrate the different popular markets, those on Mondays, those on Fridays, etc. and others that arise.
