The associated center of the UNED Dénia exceeded the expectations of participation in the 1th edition of the solidarity campaign "1 kilo x XNUMX book" in which the educational community and the citizens of the municipality have invested, with the participation of the Primary Education students , Secondary and Baccalaureate.
This Tuesday, access to the UNED Dénia headquarters was attended by schoolchildren from the city's schools, who contributed their solidarity kilo of food in exchange for a book, a way to celebrate Book Day by helping those most in need. .
The event could be carried out thanks to the work of the UNED Dénia staff and the collaboration of volunteers from the Dénia Solidarity Table, made up of the Red Cross, Cáritas Interparroquial Dénia, Extend your Hand and the Salvation Army, and people who They added to the reception of food. The entities united under the name "Mesa Solidaria" have the purpose of fighting poverty in Dénia.
In the afternoon, members of the Spanish Garrison joined in, an organization that works with Star Wars characters to entertain charity events and were an attraction for children and adults who came to exchange food for books.
The director of the UNED Dénia, Raquel Martí, has highly appreciated the work of the administration and services staff and the center's management team for the effort made in organizing the event. In addition, he thanked the volunteers for their participation throughout the day, and highlighted the involvement of the Dénia educational community in this solidarity event, in which they participated massively by contributing food.
From the academic entity they report that they have exceeded one thousand kilos of non-perishable food, which also includes personal hygiene products and baby products that are also in high demand among the most needy population. With all this food collected, the more than 70 families served by the Solidarity Table can be served for two months, according to those responsible.
Martí also thanked the city's political leaders for their participation in the event by providing food and promoting the activity on their social networks.
