The Conference on Breastfeeding addresses the benefits of breastfeeding for the baby and the mother

The Department of Health of Dénia met last Wednesday, in Baleària Port, to mothers, fathers and medical professionals to talk about breastfeeding, its benefits and the role of the couple in the process.

The event was inaugurated by the Department Manager, Luis Carretero, accompanied by the Director of Care and Services, Alfredo Moreno; the President of the Breastfeeding Committee, Marta Sánchez and the Supervisor of the Pediatric and Maternity Plant, Amparo Exojo.

After inaugural dance that took place on the esplanade of the Maritime Station, the day continued with two inaugural talks. The first, by the Chair of the Breastfeeding Committee, Marta Sánchez, who, under the title of The 10 steps towards a successful lactation, addressed the benefits of breastfeeding.

In this sense, the experts stressed that for the child prevents a good number of infections that can develop during his life; some banal, but others serious as pneumonia or bronchiolitis. Also diseases such as Crohn's or obesity, and the consequences that derive from it: high blood pressure or increased cholesterol. In addition, Dr. Sánchez emphasized "There is scientific evidence that children who have been breastfed have a lower risk of some types of cancers such as lymphomas and leukemias".

For their part, nursing mothers recover their pre-pregnancy weight earlier than women who do not.
