We spoke with Jaume Bertomeu Catalan, chosen as Exemplary Fallero of 2018 of the failures Denia.
Those who know Jaume highlight his humility and ability to work. And it is that Jaume Bertomeu is a "species in extinction", a heart faller who has sacrificed hours of his life (many) to help both his commission, from within, and all the failures of Dénia, from the Local Board Fallera.
This gardener from 49 years received a call from José Vicente Benavente, president of the Local Fallera Board of Dénia, last 17 in January. It could have been a call from the many that the president made to his vice president, but the shots were not there. Benavente called him to inform him that the jury had chosen him as 2018 Exemplary Fallero.
At the news, first, disbelief. Afterwards, skepticism and thinking that it is an undertaking of their companions. And finally, "a great joy", as he himself affirms. This appointment is "A recognition of all the efforts made by the failures, all the times that I have been able to have a hard time".
And it is that they are many years and a lot of life dedicated to the festival fallera (and what is left). Since that 1984 became part of the Center fault, he has been in charge of the ordinary lottery, delegate of celebrations, child delegate and, twice, president of the fault: in the 1996 / 1997 and 2000 / 2001 exercises.
The 2011 year arrived and her daughter Paula was chosen as Fallera Mayor Infantil de Dénia. There he began to know the Fallera Local Board inside, an organ that until that moment was totally unknown to him. The good relationship he had with the executive, which at that time chaired Jean Pierre Sánchez, led him to get involved in the organization, and finally woke up the worm that led him, the following year, to stand for the Presidency of the Board.
For four years, Jaume Bertomeu was president of the Local Fallera Board of Dénia, "a very beautiful experience" in which he stands out without hesitation to the people he has met, both from Dénia and from other towns. He is currently part of the board of José Vicente Benavente as vice president.
Bertomeu thinks that the failures of Dénia "they are difficult", but emphasizes that, in spite of having lowered this year the number of falleros, in the month of March they will be seen in the street "very good monuments in both categories"and all that is "thanks to the work of the falleros".
For the Exemplary Fallero de las Fallas of Dénia 2018, "There is no scale, everyone who spends time on failures is an exemplary fallero. Almost all of us are exemplary falleros. We dedicate ourselves to the party that costs us money, work, family hours ...".
Although he has not revealed the details of the speech he will deliver, Jaume Bertomeu considers that "We should change the bad milk we have with each other a little, and with the board, and work a little more with each other, I think we would all be much better".
This Saturday, in the halls the Poblet, Jaume Bertomeu will receive the love of the failures of Dénia in a night that promises to be emotional and unforgettable for its protagonist.
