They investigate the death of several dogs in the Marina Alta after ingesting a pesticide substance

May 14 from 2018 - 13: 10

At least 9 dogs have died and other 5 have been poisoned in the populations of Benissa and Teulada between the months of March and April of this year, for what seems to be a pesticide poisoning.

The Nature Protection Service (SEPRONA) of the Civil Guard in Alicante, has carried out an investigation related to a series of intoxications in rural areas of Calpe, Teulada and Benissa. After taking them out for walks in these areas, the owners saw how their dog, after a few minutes, began to convulse, suffered from respiratory failure and, in the worst cases, died instantly.

The investigations took the agents to four tool booths, 3 in Benissa and 1 in Teulada, whose owners are linked to hunting. In all the huts found hidden insecticides not authorized and expired, high toxicity and lethality, the most prominent being the Aldicarb, whose simple exposure gives rise to symptoms similar to those described by the owners of poisoned dogs.

Apparently these products could have acquired in a clandestine establishment in the town of Benissa, inspected by the SEPRONA together with the Ministry of Agriculture, and in which were found more phytosanitary products without authorization for sale, without traceability, expired and very toxic .

In the casetas, in addition, several traps and traps prohibited for hunting use, finches and finches without authorization, and even 51 hunting dogs (1 of them of dangerous breed) unvaccinated and unidentified, were discovered. the corresponding administrative complaint was also made.

The investigations continue, being able to impute a crime relative to the protection of the flora and fauna, and a crime of mistreatment to domestic animal, depending on the results that throw the analysis of the substances seized to the six people investigated.
