It is early to claim victory but it seems that the third wave of the coronavirus is beginning to subside in our department. We managed to save Christmas, but it is undeniable that a heavy price had to be paid. In addition, it caused the restrictions to be intensified in order to alleviate the critical situation of the health centers of the Valencian Community, whose occupation has increased considerably in the last month.
The third wave is caused not only by Christmas, but also by the December bridge, which was when everything started to get out of hand in the Marina Alta. Still, since then, we have not reached an incidence like the one we enjoyed before the said bridge.
Without rest, these contagions overlapped with those of Christmas, which was already devastating for our situation. In the Marina Alta, a fortnight after New Year's Eve and Three Kings, the coronavirus reached its highest peak since the pandemic began. In the update of January 19, 807 new infections were registered, a more than alarming figure.
In the case of Dénia, the evolution has been almost traced, with the difference that the peak of infections was reached a week before. On January 12, he beat his record of infections, adding 238 new cases. Now, it is true that the figure was almost repeated when the department reached its worst moment, since on January 19 it added 229, just a dozen less.
In the latest update that was published this Tuesday, it was notified that Dénia had added 90 new cases, the lowest figure since December 22. Everything indicates that it is an indication that the third wave is coming to an end, although it all depends on the behavior of each one. The debates are already turning around saving Easter, still living the consequences of the kind Christmas lived. Will it be worth it to saturate hospitals again and close businesses another month for a week of inhibition?
