Dénia, as a UNESCO Gastronomic City, under the microscope of tourism experts

11 October 2023 - 09: 36

A group made up of geographers affiliated with different Spanish universities visited Dénia last Saturday with the intention of learning about the urban development of the city and the projects related to its status as a Creative City of Gastronomy of the UNESCO network. The First Field Conference of the Tourism Geography group was organized by the University of Alicante and the Spanish Association of Geography (AGE) and aimed to collect data on the evolution of the tourism model and the effects that the Dénia declaration may have had. as a Creative City.

The visit had a mainly experiential nature, with a bus and walking tour through various parts of the city, accompanied by the Councilor for Urban Planning, María Josep Ripoll, and those responsible for the Office of Innovation and Creativity. The councilor gave details about the processing and approval of the General Structural Plan, the conflicts that the planning presents and the circumstances that the different proposals that have not come to fruition in recent decades have gone through. They showed a special interest in the transformations to gain civic use of urban spaces, the provision of common green areas, the incorporation of gastronomy in local projects or the regulation and organization of tourist activity.

The group received explanations and asked questions along a walk that took them from Raset beach to the old town, with stops in the Baix la Mar neighborhood, the city's maritime façade, the Calle Marques de Campo, the Municipal Market and the Town Hall Square. Prior to this, and by bus, they had toured the perimeter of the city between the Torrecremada park and the port.

Come on, they came to eat. Who paid for the trip, stay, consumption, etc.? How much plugged in life…..

  2. Maria says:

What I don't understand is that the parking lot at the entrance for boats to Ibiza, dog beach, restaurants etc. has been closed all summer. SHAME!!!!!

  3. Ximo Alcubies says:

I love the work of these people. Both people must have a lot of time to dedicate themselves to these intangible things… Except that they put everything on a very nice, sparse plate with intelligible names and you pay a premium 3 times more expensive than usual. And the places that are not of that vibe, in the heat of the same story, raise their prices without regard. Indeed a creative city, but also about draining your pocket with so much nonsense and the city council smiling.

  4. It says:

Incredible, the councilor giving explanations about a PGE that is in court once again for its manifest irregularities in substance and form after 8 years in which it has been denounced and revoked even by the Constitutional Court.
Would you also explain to them the number of sentences that the city council has against them for their urban plans, which they are not able to pay and they eat up the interest on those debts of public money?
I would also tell you how these “gastronomic acts” are financed and that they benefit a few by diverting investments of public money instead of dedicating them to citizen well-being, right?
Would you talk about the illegal rentals and the disrespectful and annoying tourism that Denia is attracting with its plans and policies?
I hope that this group of experts, having seen what they have seen and heard all the lies and lies of Grimalt's protégé, will issue a devastating report on what is happening in this City.
