Image transfer Santissima Sang for restoration

First thing in the morning, the image of the Sang Santíssima It has been transferred from the convent of Las Agustinas to be subjected to a restoration process by the technical staff of the Gravina Museum of Fine Arts (MUBAG) of the Diputación de Alicante. It is planned that in the month of March, the image will return to Dénia.

The mayor, Ana Kringe, and the president of the Brotherhood of Santíssima Sang, Andrés Escribá, have been present at the departure of the image of the patron saint of the city, which has been coordinated by the technical director of MUBAG, Joserre Pérez Gil.

The director of the MUBAG has stated that it is a magnificent size in workmanship and polychrome, dating from the late sixteenth or early seventeenth century and anonymous author. Pérez Gil has indicated that despite its 400 years, its conservation "is very good"And presents the typical aging of a cypress, a wood whose hardness has contributed to guarantee the good general state of the image.

The restoration process will be carried out with reversible materials and techniques and will not be invasive, conserving all the original material. When the works are completed, the Cofradía will receive a study and a complete photographic dossier on the process that can be used for future interventions.

The Diputación de Alicante will assume the full cost of the works of recovery of the Santíssima Sang. The months that the size does not preside the high altar of the church of the Agustinas will occupy its place a photographic reproduction to size real that has been placed this morning by members of the brotherhood.
