This Friday the municipal government of Dénia (PSPV-Compromís) has approved the 2024 budgets, despite the vote against Vox and PP and abstention from Gent of Dénia. The amount this year amounts to 74.752.548,20 euros, 5% more than in 2023.
From the PP, José Antonio Cristóbal has expressed his discontent with the fact that a large part of the investments are inherited year after year, without materializing. He, too, has not convinced the popular people about the money allocated to Tourism, since it represents a minuscule percentage of the total.
Likewise, the training disapproves that in 2024 31% less will be used than last year in maintenance of public roads or 32% less in the protection of heritage, as well as "only 2,5% (of the total) to the beaches».
"The income is to serve the citizens," mentioned Cristóbal, who has criticized that the Dénia government "is the most expensive in history", in reference to the number of councilors released.
From the government, the mayor himself, Vicent Grimalt, has responded alluding to the fact that "it is the most expensive government in history" because there is more income to manage, he maintains, and despite this they have contributed to actions such as lowering public debt and has achieved greater subsidies from Europe. In this sense, he has returned the ball by calling the opposition "the most expensive in history" because "in seven months they have not presented a single motion" despite the fact that their salaries have increased in recent years.
It has not been the only clash between the mayor and the main opposition force, since Cristóbal has accused the government of presenting the budgets after the deadline, to which Grimalt has responded that there is no such deadline, and that, in fact, the Provincial Council, led by the PP, presented its budgets this Wednesday.
From "demagogy" and "pan-Catalanism" to "realism"
For his part, Félix Redondo, spokesperson for Vox, has described these budgets as "demagogues" and "insufficient." Redondo has asked for more aid for training in hospitality and investment in parties "beyond Fallas y Moors and Christians", like in Bous a la Mar. Furthermore, he has criticized the fact that part of the funds are allocated to aid to "promote pan-Catalanism" or that allocated to the Department of Equality.
