the use of bicycles normalizes the ride Marineta Cassiana

January 23 from 2015 - 15: 58

The mayor of the Agenda 21 Local de Dénia, Vicente Chelet, presented the project to normalize the use of bicycles in the walk of the Marineta Cassiana. For this, the first phase will be the placement of informative signs as a warning to bicycle users.

Marineta Cassiana ride

Three signs will be placed, one at the beginning of the walk, at the height of the roundabout that has the Montgó monument. The second will be located in the center, just before where the stairs are and the third will be at the end, next to the Roig margin.

The indications are that the maximum speed at which the bicycles can run will be that of 10 Km / hour and that these are incorporated into a zone shared with pedestrians, with priority for pedestrians.

Chelet explained, "the goal is not other than all users pedestrians and bicycle users know how to behave in this ride".

Signage for bicycles

If there are no complaints after the placement of this vertical signal, the second phase would not start, which would be the horizontal signaling, "we have the permission of the Provincial Coastal Service to build a bike lane in this area, but we hope that we do not have to do it, this would mean that everyone is respected, but if this did not work, a bike lane would be indicated"commented Chelet.

The councilor has indicated that it is expected to request authorization to develop a second phase of implementation of signage and bike lanes in the sections where it is required until reaching the end of Les Rotes.

Chelet added that this action is part of the objectives set by the Covenant of Mayors, signed by Dénia in 2013, since it computes for the purpose of reducing CO2 emissions in a 20% before the 2020 year.

It also fulfills the commitment that Dénia acquired as a member of the Network of Cities for the bicycle to encourage the use of this means of transport and increase the space for the circulation of bicycles in the city. And, finally, it meets the requirements of the Healthy Cities Network, to which Dénia belongs from 2013

New bicycle racks

The technician of the municipal project of promotion of the use of Cyclingdenia bicycle, Florentino Terrades, has detailed other actions that the council is going to carry out soon. In the month of February they will install 35 bicycle racks in seven new points of the urban center of Dénia, La Xara and Jesús Pobre, with capacity to park 70 bicycles.

Also, the Provincial Council of Alicante has granted the municipality this week a subsidy in kind of 36 bicycle parking, which will continue to improve and expand this type of infrastructure in the coming months.

Bike parking on the Marineta Cassiana Promenade

Terrades has indicated that the collaboration with the Spanish Network of Cities for Bicycle continues to promote the bike in our city, as well as the bi-registration service.

During the past month of November ten shops of Dénia specialized in sustainable mobility -bike stores, mopeds and electric vehicles- were visited to inform them about the Action Plan for Sustainable Energy (SEAP), developed by the 21 Local Agenda of Dénia in collaboration with the Provincial Energy Agency of Alicante.

These establishments have been asked for their involvement in its development and implementation. Through this plan, the city of Dénia defines the actions to achieve the emission reduction targets marked by its adherence to the Covenant of Mayors and one of its priority actions is, precisely, the promotion of the bicycle as a sustainable mode of transport and alternative to the private vehicle.

It seems that with the elections approaching, politicians are clearing their brain a bit. Of course, they could have done it from the beginning and no discomfort would have been generated (as advised by cycling associations and fans). But… I'm glad that sanity prevailed in the end.

What good news, the rumors seemed to indicate that we were going to prohibit the bike that in the areas of Marineta Casiana and Les Rotes, we were very worried! Wanting to do things well and mutual respect always improve coexistence!
And also for putting more bicycles, could you put one at the end of Loreto street, another in Cholet square and another next to the Treasury offices?
Thank you very much and congratulations for the solution adopted!
