Our cuisine, a different way to fall in love with Dénia

May 11 from 2013 - 00: 01

Dry octopus, cod sighs, delicious Mediterranean salads, sausage, salted fish of all kinds, fresh seafood, fish from the bay, mistela, coca Maria ... will there be anything that attracts more than the delicacies from which, luckily, we can enjoy in our city?

One of the big bets Department of Tourism is the food, and she has created a new route that crosses the city through the flavors.

Last week, accompanied by Santi, the guide, and a large group of tourists could enjoy this route and rediscover what it tastes Dénia.

The appointment was at 11: 30 in the Tourist Office, where we started the morning with an explanation of the history of Denia and the route we would enjoy. The next stop: Toy Museum. There we learned more about the toy industry of Dénia, as well as that of the train, entering little by little in the 20th century.

Our walk followed by Marqués de Campo, where we speak of modernism and growth of Denia with its main artery, and then went to the Mercat Municipal, the main stop on the route.

At the door, Santi explained the history of the Mercat, his past Glorieta Country Valencià, his funionamiento during the last century and has undergone renovations to improve infrastructure.

It was Saturday morning, so the Mercat had more life than ever: people of all types, age and condition flocking to the square to make the purchase of the week, looking for quality and excellent service.

We visited the salted fish, where we could try roe and mojama, always attentive to the explanation of the guide and the Mercat vendors, who treated us as if we were family. Then they waited for us in the fish. Joaquina explained to us the great wealth of our sea, and the fish that we can enjoy ... not forgetting the red prawn of Dénia, a delight for which all tourists were curious.

After visiting Joaquina we went in search of meat and sausage, and could try chorizo, pate and snorts made by the butcher himself. Delicious!

You had tried the salting and the meat ... something sweet was missing. And the stop that offered it to us was that of Trini, who had prepared both Cocas de la Marina and Coca Maria, anise donuts and a discovery for some of us: panou with sobrasada.

We thought we couldn't take it anymore... but there were still more stops. Next up, nuts. And of course, we taste the raisin, so linked to the history of Dénia and the Marina Alta. And to end the extensive route through the Mercat, we toast with a rich and sweet mistela from the land.

Here the first part of the route ended. But there was still more. We had the opportunity to enjoy in two restaurants in the center of Dénia some tapas prepared especially for the occasion: dry octopus, cod fritters, nuts and varied sandwiches always accompanied by a good wine or a cold beer.

A different way to see Dénia, to enjoy our gastronomy and to spend a Saturday morning. A highly recommended route for tourists and dianenses, because it never hurts to give the body a gastronomic joy ...
