Breast, gastrointestinal tract, prostate and lung: the most common cancers in the Marina Alta

Saturday February 4 celebrated World Day Against Cancer, a disease unfortunately very introduced in our society. On the occasion of this anniversary, the Hospital de Dénia It has released the data on this condition.

In the Marina Alta the most frequent tumors are breast, followed by those of the digestive system, prostate and lung. In 2016, the Regional Hospital treated 4.600 patients in the oncology department, among whom 3.700 treatments were dispensed.

Dr. Joan Manel Gassent, Head of Oncology Hospital of Dénia, stressed the importance of commemorating the World Cancer Day, as "It is the most relevant disease with the most psychosocial impact that we have today".

The Department of Health of Dénia, it is according to Dr. Gassent, "a department with multidisciplinary teams very well equipped for the treatment of cancer: specialized surgeons, plastic surgeons very involved in the treatment of breast cancer or interventional radiologists who carry out very innovative techniques available in very few centers".

Dr. Gassent has also emphasized the proper functioning of multidisciplinary committees responsible for evaluating, analyzing and deciding on each of the different types of tumors are treated in the Department of Health of Dénia.

Early and proper diagnosis of cancer is vital to reducing the mortality rate. In this regard, Dr. Gassent has highlighted all the work that is being developed from the Department of Diagnostic Imaging, stressing the importance of technological equipment "high value" managed by a team "first division".
