"Faced with this type of operations, both patients and family members, they have many doubts. Therefore, we organize these talks in which we explain the entire process from the time we refer the patient until he is discharged," said Dr. Nuria Franco, Head of the Department of Traumatology at the Marina Salud Hospital.

Rehabilitation, key in the recovery process
Mariano Martín-Macho, supervisor of the physiotherapy department of the Marina Salud Hospital, has stressed the importance of rehabilitation in the speedy recovery in this type of interventions. "Not only do you have to exercise before the operation, but weeks before it is also convenient to start with them to be able to make the muscles strong," explained Martín-Macho. Joint replacement surgery
As explained by Dr. Franco, "joint replacement surgery is performed when a joint has suffered considerable wear and has lost its padding." This causes a lot of pain in the patient and what needs to be done is to change the damaged joint.
This procedure usually lasts about 2 hours, brings about 5 days in hospital and about 1 month of rehabilitation.
