The Moors and Christians festivals in Dénia will have a "pioneer project" to make them more inclusive and diverse

In the Plenary Hall of the Dénia Town Hall, the presentation of the expected festival program de Moros i Cristians 2023, on Wednesday the 26th. During the event, exciting news was revealed that promises to make this year an unforgettable edition.

The president of the FEMMICC Dénia, Sonia Pérez, the mayor of Fiestas, Raul Garcia de la Reina, and the town crier for the 2023 festivities, Julián Pérez, commented on the novelties included in this year's programming.

On the other hand, the Councilor for Equality and Inclusive Policies, Javier Scotto, exposed what he has called "a pioneering project" that aims to "inclusive and diverse parties" and it is the first time that it has been applied to parties.

From her council, with the collaboration of professionals from the Raquel Payá Special Education Center, a series of pictograms have been designed that represent events, positions and spaces related to the folklore of the festival to include those with cognitive diversity and/or visual.

These images will be included both in the program and in the billboards in order to involve the bulk of the population in the festivities. This initiative will be explained in the Dénia Municipal Library, on Thursday, August 3, at 20:00 p.m., with the presence of the president of the National Union of Festive Entities of Moors and Christians (UNDEF), Pepa Prats.

Both the new poster, which is inspired by an attack by Barbary galleons on the Dianense coast in 1556, and the name of the town crier were unveiled at the event. Julián Pérez has been chosen, according to Sonia Pérez, for being one of the promoters of the party in the city. The party announcer was moved by what he himself calls the emotion of the party that he carries inside.

As for the program, one of the most noticeable novelties will be the incorporation of the procession "De quan els Moros arribaren al Saladar", on Saturday, August 9, at 19:30 p.m. The act, which will cover the Ronda de las Murallas, Calle Foramur and Calle la Mar, is about the recreation of a procession carried out in 1599, as part of the celebrations for the visit of Felipe III.

In addition, to the festivities is added the celebration of an 'entraeta festera' on Saturday the 12th. In the form of a target, the members of the cabilas will tour the streets of the city from early in the morning.
