The Generalitat begins the track renovation works to return the train to Dénia

May 19 from 2020 - 15: 07

The Government of Catalonia has begun works to renew the track and prepare the infrastructure for Line 9 of the TRAM d'Alacant (Benidorm-Dénia) on the section between Gata de Gorgos and Dénia.

This intervention has a budget of 14,5 million euros and affects 10,93 kilometers of track. The expected execution period is 11,5 months.

The renewal of the track in this section allows the actions included in the Modernization Plan of Line 9 carried out by Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat Valenciana (FGV) to be interrupted by the declaration of the state of alarm.

This action, like the rest that is carried out on this Line 9, is liable to be co-financed by the European Union through the Operational Program of the European Regional Development Fund "(Feder).

Along with the works on this section, FGV awarded the renovation works between Teulada and Gata de Gorgos of this same line last March, with a budget of 15,1 million euros and affecting some six kilometers of track.

The set of these investments are intended to maintain and improve operating conditions, guaranteeing regularity and quality of service with standards similar to the rest of the network in Alicante.

Between the actions already underway or in administrative processing and those planned, the investment of the Generalitat in Line 9 of the Alicante TRAM amounts to more than 130 million euros.

Renovation actions

This action aims to achieve a comprehensive renovation and modernization of this section of Line 9 as regards rail, sleepers and ballast. The works are aimed at improving safety conditions, promoting user comfort, road durability and reduced maintenance.

The state of a good part of the infrastructure of this section, especially embankments, drainage and slopes, require consolidation actions.

In addition, FGV has also planned in a complementary manner the installation of the new signaling and communication systems in this section.

In parallel with these actions, FGV has already awarded the acquisition of sleepers and rails for the renewal of these two sections. The public company has thus made effective the purchase of 19.000 concrete monobloc metric width sleepers amounting to 1.643.785 euros, VAT included, and 30.600 linear meters rail track 54E1 grade R260, with a cost of 1.443.572,77 euros, also with the aforementioned Tax included.
