Fundació Baleària developed 441 social actions in the Marina Alta and the Balearic Islands during 2017

La Fundació BaleàriaIn order to improve the quality of life of the citizens of the communities where the company operates, in collaboration with local or regional public and private entities and with the active participation of corporate volunteering, it developed a total of 441 actions during 2017.

It is the most significant data extracted from the annual report of the foundation, which describes the actions that have been carried out during the past year, focused especially on the contribution to the sustainable development of the territory; the development of sustainable tourism offers; the conservation of the marine environment; and the promotion of sustainability and reinforcement of the commitment against climate change.

Of the total of 441 shares, which were developed thanks to a budget of 947.000 euros, 117 were their own, developed in the spaces that the company has in the territories where it operates, and 251 were collaborations with other entities. These include exhibitions, lectures, gatherings and cultural sponsorships.

Bet on health and sports

The Fundació launched the new program Baleària Healthy, focused on promoting health and sports practice through collaborations, agreements, sponsorships and activities linked to the world of health and sports.

The activities, aimed at different social groups as well as employees of the shipping company, are related to the world of sports, food or healthy leisure to promote individual and collective well-being.

Significant increase in volunteering

Since 2009 Baleària has a corporate volunteer group formed by company personnel that participates in an active and altruistic way in social, cultural and solidarity activities of the Fundació Baleària. In 2017, the number of volunteers of the foundation was 152, 23,6% more than the previous year, allowing 17 to develop activities.

The importance of the environment

During 2017, Fundació Baleària has continued betting in an important way on the environment through its own activities such as Expedicionària, aimed at secondary school students from 12 educational centers of the Marina Alta and the Balearic Islands. A total of 420 students participated in this program.

In addition, Fundació Baleària organized a series of conferences on climate change and its impact on tourism, agriculture and marine biodiversity, in which the experts Jorge Olcina, Rodolfo Canet and Núria Marbà participated.

In this sense, a total of 14 environmental activities have been carried out that have contributed to the transfer of sea turtles and injured marine animals, to the protection of Posidonia and to the sighting of cetaceans.
