The Diputación allocates 21.000 euros against illegal dumping in an area of the municipality of Dénia

November 03 from 2022 - 17: 15

The City Council of Dénia will receive a grant of 21.000 euros from the Diputación de Alicante to put an end to uncontrolled discharges in four points of the Amplius game. This area of the municipality of Dénia is located next to the A7 motorway and borders the Racons river and the Pego-Oliva marsh natural park.

This was announced by the provincial deputy for the Environment, Energy and Urban Solid Waste, Miguel Ángel Sánchez, during his visit to Dénia this morning. Sánchez has visited the illegal landfill accompanied by the Councilor for Ecological Transition, Maite Pérez Conejero, the spokesperson for the municipal group of Party, María Mut and the senior technician for the Environment of the Dénia City Council, José Antonio Martínez. There he has been able to verify the accumulation of waste deposited illegally and that, in many cases, is highly polluting.

The investment subsidized by the Provincial Council includes the following actions:

  • The removal of the different existing waste.
  • The clearing of the area, which in addition to preventing fires, will eliminate invasive species that have populated the land. This clearing of vegetation will bring to light more debris, now not visible, which will also be removed.
  • The project also contemplates the reforestation of the area with native bushes.
  • Lastly, the access is going to be fenced to prevent further uncontrolled discharges.

According to the Environment technician, the Amplius item is the worst landfill that exists in the municipality, since it is active and dangerous waste is deposited.

Its location makes it especially important to eradicate and regenerate it. It is located on the edge of a wetland area, the Racons river, and adjoins the Pego-Oliva marsh natural park, so there is a possibility of water contamination and it must be eliminated. Likewise, it is 15 meters from the motorway and 20 meters from the N-332, so its impact on the landscape is evident. Lastly, it must be taken into account that it entails a significant risk of fire, since weeds cover the area and the adjoining plots, which are abandoned, with the added danger that the land borders the gas compression station.
