The Mayor's Department launches a consultation and support telephone service for the elderly

February 19 from 2021 - 09: 20

Older people are one of the sectors of the population that is suffering the most from the effects of the pandemic. The conditions of total confinement of the first months, as well as the subsequent restrictions to which the health crisis has forced, aggravate a situation of loneliness, uncertainty and isolation that many of our elderly suffer on a daily basis. To try to alleviate these consequences, the Mayor's Office has launched a telephone service for people over 70 years of age designed to inform and answer questions about municipal services or services in general; provide solutions to caller needs and provide isolation-relieving listening.

"The project" You are not alone. We are with you "starts with the intention of staying and becoming a permanent service that the elderly in Dénia can always count on, a point of support for that unwanted loneliness that affects them with and without a pandemic", said the councilor of the Mayor, Elisabet Cardona.

To begin with, the service will be attended by the techniques of the Mayor's Office and will be provided from Monday to Friday, from 9 a.m. to 14 p.m., on the telephone number 96 642 61 65. The objective, Cardona has advanced, “is to increase the possibilities of service and to be able to extend their hours with the collaboration of volunteers from the Classrooms for the Third Age, once they can resume their activity ”. At the moment, the project is adding collaborations from other associations, such as the Retiree Home, which has launched this call service among its members. Likewise, the Office of the Mayor has begun to contact users of the Social Center over 80 years of age to inquire about their current situation, to be able to help them in whatever they need and to inform them of the imminent launch of the new telephone service.

"Another fundamental issue to develop the project successfully and that it really becomes a useful service for the elderly is the involvement of the other municipal departments, which will have to be resorted to to resolve the doubts or needs of the callers, and from other entities of the city ”, said the councilor.

A collaboration that has already begun to be visible, for example, in the facilities of the Citizen Service Office (OAC), which to make the wait for older people who come to make arrangements, has placed at its entrance furniture where users can rest until their turn.
