Joan Fornés takes over from Javier Scotto as socialist candidate for mayor of Jesús Pobre

29 2023 April - 11: 05

Joan Fornés, who has been in charge of the Works and Services delegation of the government of the Jesús Pobre City Council for the last two legislatures, is the new number 1 of the socialist candidacy for EATIM for the upcoming elections on May 28. This afternoon he presented his list and program at the Jesús Pobre Social Center, accompanied by a large representation of the PSPV-PSOE Dénia and by neighbors of the town.

Fornés takes over from Javier Scotto, who has held the EATIM mayorship for three consecutive legislatures, 12 years, "which have meant assuming the highest responsibility of the municipal government for the creation of which the neighbors fought so hard, in 1995, and being the first mayor of adoption, the first socialist and, why not say it, the first LGTBI mayor. And it is that this is how hospitable, tolerant, inclusive and generous is my beloved town of Jesús Pobre”, highlighted the current mayor, who will continue in the team that opts to revalidate the mayoralty for a fourth term.

Javier Scotto is number 3 on the list for the municipal elections in May. At number 2, Rosi Agulles, a person very involved in the associative fabric of Jesús Pobre and a new addition to the candidacy. Also debuting on the list are numbers 4 and 5: Marisa Costa, member of the Riurau Market association, and Paco Pérez, of the Neighborhood Association, respectively.

Joan Fornés, the mayoral candidate, has defined his team as "a group of people who can give a lot of themselves, maintain the current management and promote new projects, contributing capacity for work, ideas and desire, great desire, to get EATIM forward. Each member of the team is an important piece to cover the different areas of management and work that Jesús Pobre needs”. Because, as he has affirmed, «during the last few years the volume of work at EATIM has increased exponentially, quantitatively and qualitatively. We have gone from requesting 3 grants in 2011 to requesting more than 40 per year. The one in Jesús Pobre is already a fully functioning town hall that needs time and dedication”.

"We have fulfilled our program and we have many more things to do!"

"Who was going to tell us that our city council would have to manage a health crisis?" Fornés recalled to highlight the effort made by EATIM to care for the most vulnerable people in the midst of a pandemic. In spite of everything, "we have fulfilled our program, but we have projects that we want to finish and that were delayed for the two years in which we could not work normally."

Among the commitments already fulfilled are the urbanization of Avenida Cases Noves, the second municipal drinking water tank, the redevelopment of Diagonal street, the expansion of the Escoles street sidewalk, the improvement of the soundproofing of the doctor's office, the resurfacing of the Corralet road, the repair of the ground floor of the House of Culture, the sewage system in the Bisserot area, the implementation of fiber optics for the urban and disseminated core, or the installation of photovoltaic streetlights on the Bisserot path.

Projects already started that will see the light of day in the next legislature and that complete the new government program, the reform of the Pare Pere school, the remodeling of Avenida de Dénia (crossing CV-738), the redevelopment of Ametlers, Furs and You are, the access roundabout to Jesús Pobre and the Jesús Pobre-La Sella descent.

The reform of the Casa de la Cultura is also proposed to convert it into a multi-purpose center while the negotiations for the construction of a new cultural space begin; the repair of the road to Simon's Well; provide sewerage to Cases Noves; and adapt public buildings with energy efficiency measures and the installation of solar panels.

In terms of rural areas, the management of a land bank is proposed to favor its cultivation and the implementation of the Strategic Plan for Sustainable Agricultural Development (PEDAS), among other measures.

Joan Fornés has also made reference to the collaboration with Dénia: "we are not alone, we also have the team of Vicent and the PSPV in Dénia that always supports the popular will of Jesús Pobre".

And in his speech, Vicent Grimalt, current mayor of Dénia and candidate, has reaffirmed that "sincere commitment to continue defending and respecting the will of the residents of Jesús Pobre, as we have done with the drafting of the General Structural Plan and the design of an urban model, also for EATIM, which prioritizes the preservation of the territory and our natural heritage against the attempts of some to privatize it. And the utmost diligence to manage matters as important to the town as the rehabilitation of the Pare Pere school, included in the Generalitat Edificant Plan. The Dénia City Council has already received the powers of the Department and the works will be carried out in the next legislature.

It's nice to see how people who think about their interests pass the turn.
    The PSPV-PSOE is not enough.
We must further radicalize the left.
    Jesús Pobre deserves better.
Becoming a town with basic services: school, doctor's office, bank, etc.
But if there is more to see what they have done in Dénia, imagine what they will do in this town.
    We need republican towns now!
