The title of City of Dénia returns to the fully restored city

Coinciding with the anniversary of the award of Dénia 4 April 1612 city title, the Department of Culture last night preselected in society the final work of restoration of the title and two books of collection of S. XV and XVI.

In the presentation they were present Pepa Font, Councilor of culture, Rosa Seser, municipal archivist, Gemma Contreras and Maribel Santamaría, techniques of IVACOR (Valencian Restoration Institute).

Rosa Seser explained the importance of the restoration of historical documents as they presented, since until the construction of the current building of the Municipal Archive in 1992, the documents were stored in any way in the Town Hall, exposed to humidity, extreme temperatures and little conditions. recommended for its conservation.

El Dénia City title it is a solemn document that shows that the city council was interested in what it was designed for: attractive and significant given its importance. It is written on parchment in Latin, and the covers are lined with red velvet. It is known that it had a silver seal and laces that, unfortunately, have not lasted over time.

The title was paid from the royal coffers at a real 1.500 price, a somewhat lower price than usual since the king donated his silver stamp for free thanks in part to the strength the Duke of Lerma made. consolidate its territory.

The collection books are very different, with many annotations and more deteriorated, although they represent a fantastic source of documentation full of information about Dénia's neighbors, their properties and land.

The IVACOR techniques, meanwhile, explained the operation of the institute, which, although young, works both at the Valencian Community level and for other Spanish cities, and several international destinations such as Austria, Guatemala, Nicaragua, Cuba or Morocco.

Maribel Santamaría, in charge of the restoration of the three documents, explained the steps to be followed in each of them, showing more difficulty the collection books due to their deterioration.

The talk-presentation was attended by a score of people very interested in the process of restoration of such important pieces, which also could see first-hand.
