The Department of Ophthalmology Hospital de Dénia practice an average of 2.500 surgeries a year

Today 12 of March marks the World Glaucoma Day, an eye disease that treat, among other conditions, in the Marina Health Hospital Of Denia. During these years, the Ophthalmology Service of the Hospital has treated an average of 2.500 surgeries, most of them cataracts.

The 90% of them are performed under topical anesthesia and without hospital admission. After the intervention, the patient is discharged and, within a period of 24 hours, a check is made to verify that the evolution is favorable. In addition to cataract and posterior pole surgery, Dénia Hospital offers: surgery of the retina and posterior pole, strabismus surgery, glaucoma surgery, orbit surgery, oculoplasty and ocular tumors.

Currently the Ophthalmology Department consists of: 7 ophthalmologists, optometrists 2, 1 assistant for outpatient and 4 nurses during surgical sessions. The service is divided into subunits or subspecialties, starting from the anterior pole and the cornea, through glaucoma, ocular tumors and oculoplastics, to pediatric ophthalmology and Neurophthalmology.
