The central government suspended the permits for oil off our coast

22 October 2015 - 16: 59

The soap opera of oil extractions off the coast of the Marina Alta. Today, Thursday, the Official State Gazette has published the order of the Ministry of Industry that suspends and denies the hydrocarbon research permits that the company Cairn Energy intended to carry out in the Gulf of Valencia.

This decision puts an end to several years of struggle by the sectors involved in tourism, fishing and the environment of the affected area, which denounced the dangers that were running if the surveys were carried out in the Mediterranean.

Collection of signatures in Dénia against the oil drilling

Since the intentions of the company were known at 2014, in Dénia the movements have been carried out to show the unanimous rejection of society by these polls: collection of signatures, an institutional declaration and to make clear in Brussels that the population, and the entire Marina Alta, was against these prospections.

With this decision we can rest assured: we will not see oil rigs from our beaches not even the marine flora and fauna will be affected by some extractions whose benefits would hardly have compensated for the harm they were going to do both to the environment and to the economy of an entire area that lives almost entirely on tourism.
