The Jazz Festival of Denia bets on Valencian musicians in its fourth edition

One more year, summer in Dénia becomes synonymous with open-air jazz. From the 2 to the 23 in August, the Torrecremada Gardens host the IV Dénia Jazz Festival: four concerts of swing and classical jazz that this year are played by Valencian musicians.

The programming of this edition has been desgranada by the councilman of celebrations, Rafa Carrió; the technician of the department, Maribel Font, and the director of the festival, Enric Peidro.

Concerts

The IV Dénia Jazz Festival kicks off the 2 August with the performance of the Potato Head Jazz Band, a hot jazz, swing and dixieland formation formed in Granada at 2003, considered today as one of the best bands of this style at national level and with an important national and international projection.

The band Dancing Pepa Swing Band, "a good representation of the new generation of Valencian musicians", in the words of Peidro, the 9 of August and the guitarist Fabian Barraza and his Django's Trio it will do it 16 August. This virtuoso instrumentalist, based in Castellón, is considered one of the best gipsy jazz or jazz manouche guitarists in Spain and also on the European scene, according to the director of the festival.

This fourth edition of the Dénia Jazz Festival will end 23 August el Enric Peidro Swingtet. His concert, explained Peidro, will become an "unofficial" meeting of lindy hop dancers from all over Spain, who will travel to Dénia to dance that night to the rhythm of the concert music of Peidro and his band.

Parallel activities

On concert days, at aperitif time, between 13.30:15 p.m. and XNUMX:XNUMX p.m., they return to the Hotel Chamarel the sessions of Vermouth & Jazz, with the live performance of the Dénia Swing Serenaders (2 and 16 in August) and the band led by singer Randy Greer (9 and 23 days in August).

Access to these sessions Vermouth & Jazz It has a price of 6 euros and will be free for people who present the ticket to any of the festival concerts.

Every day of the concert, in the morning, there will be short jazz performances in different streets of the city to promote and spread the festival, in which the protagonists will be, mainly, the musicians who will perform at night in Torrecremada.

Lindy hop classes

Finally, on the 23 day of August, two multilevel lindy hop classes will be given at the Casa de Cultura, starting at 19.30 hours. The teachers of the school Black Bottom Valencia Miguel Cózar and Carla Saz will lead the classes, aimed at students with a certain level acquired in this style of dance. The registration fee is 10 euros.

That same day, from the 21 hours, Marina Lindy Hop teacher Ana Oliete will offer a Solo Jazz masterclass, free for the public that presents a ticket for the evening concert.
