On Friday, June 30, the V Sports Cardiology Monographic Course in the House of the Heart of the Spanish Society of Cardiology (SEC).
During the event, more than 70 specialists in the field of sports cardiology. This meeting was organized by the working group of Sports Cardiology of the Spanish Society of Cardiology, whose coordinators are Dr. Fernando de la Guía, cardiologist responsible for Roundabout Polyclinic and The clinic REMA, and Dr. Diaz from Hospital Universitario La Paz Madrid.
The course covered very interesting topics given by high-level speakers, including the assessment of people who play sports and have an implanted pacemaker or defibrillator, as well as the inappropriate use of doping substances by athletes, something that is more common than thought. The prescription of sport in people with obesity and heart failure was also analyzed, as well as the assessment of exercise in patients who have just had a myocardial infarction. Similarly, and for the first time, the first Consensus Document in the recreational diving, increasingly fashionable sport in our area.
Sports cardiology is a very important subspecialty, not only for athletes but also for the general population, including those who have some type of cardiovascular disease. After an adequate medical assessment, the results obtained can improve performance and safety during sports practice.
