The Department of the Mayor of the Dénia City Council has organized different activities for the elderly during the month of February, among which is the dance masterclass for couples that will take place on February 14 to celebrate Valentine's Day. In addition, a raffle will be held for a dinner at the Café Bar Nou Plaça for two people, once the activity is over.
The specialized class will be taught by Patricia de Juan, teacher of the Senior Classroom Dance workshop, and will be at 19:00 p.m., in the Leisure room of the Social Center. The activity is open to all people over 60 years of age, and it will not be necessary to register, you will only have to arrive a little before the start time of the masterclass.
Voices of Experience
On the other hand, on Friday, February 9, a talk has been organized within the "Voices of Experience" cycle. This is a series of conferences in which the elderly people of Dénia will make known their personal experiences, their motivations and their dreams.
The talk «A passion without age, the party of Moors and Christians» will be led by Carmen Domínguez, who in 2.000 was the first captain of the line Almogàvers. The conference will take place in the multipurpose room of the Social Center at 18:00 p.m. Admission will be free.
"Voices of Experience" is a series of conferences, in which the elderly of Dénia will make known their personal experiences, their motivations and their dreams, with the aim of demonstrating and conveying that age is not an impediment to fulfilling the goals. dreams and achieve what they set out to do. Furthermore, these talks want to highlight the importance that older people have for our society and everything that new generations can learn from their experiences.
Carnotoltes 2024
On Saturday, February 10, 2024 starting at 17:00 p.m., Dénia will celebrate Carnestoltes 2024 with the famous children's costume contest, and this year, as a great novelty, they wanted to involve older people, creating the new category "Senior" (from 60 years old).
All those who wish to participate in the traditional costume contest must register on Saturday, February 10, 2024, at the two registration points that will be enabled in the following locations:
- from 17:00 p.m. to 17:30 p.m. on La Vía street at the height of the Toy Museum
- starting at 18:00 p.m. at the intersection of Patricio Ferrándiz Street and Sagunto Street
Registration for the contest will be mandatory and free. The contest will be held starting at 18:30 p.m. on the stage that will be located at the intersection between Sagunto and Patricio Ferrándiz streets. The participants will have to show their costumes to the audience and the jury. The theme of the costume contest is free, and originality, the elaboration of the costume and the staging on stage will be valued.
On the other hand, for the troupes the criteria that the jury will take into account will be the quality and originality of the costume design. The award ceremony for the winners of the contest will take place at approximately 19:30 p.m.
Other activities
And finally, on February 23, the National Police will give the talk "About seniors and security: new types of scam", which will take place at 10:00 a.m., in the leisure room of the Social Center. Admission will be free.

These meetings will take place on the first Monday of each month, and were promoted by the Department of the Elderly in October 2023, with the aim of resolving doubts and queries from older people.
