The City Council decorates the chief mayor Andrés Tabernero on the Day of the Local Police of Dénia

20 December 2022 - 16: 57

The Mayor of Dénia, Vicent Grimalt, the councilor for Citizen Protection, Javier Scotto, and the chief mayor of the Local Police of Dénia, Andrés Tabernero, have presided over the act of the Day of the Local Police of Dénia that is celebrated today, December 20. The event took place in the l'Androna room of the maritime station of Dénia and has been led by police officers Juanjo Bordes and Patricia Salort.

One of the most outstanding moments of the act of celebration has been the delivery of the Dénia Local Police medal to Andrés Tabernero Reboredo, currently chief mayor of the force, for his professional career, with more than 37 uninterrupted years of service, of which about 25 have been in front of the direction of the municipal police. The granting of the distinction was proposed by the plenary session of the Corporation by the Department of Citizen Protection and was unanimously approved last November.

In his speech, Tabernero wanted to exalt the role of the body in the events of the city during the last year, stressing the creation of new units such as the Eros unit to combat sexual discrimination and hate crimes and the relaunch of others such as the environmental and drone.

The chief mayor has underlined "the great increase in daily services" that the Local Police has experienced and has affirmed that "there is a lack of troops to reach everything with the greatest effectiveness." He has also listed new means incorporated into daily work such as defibrillators, new vehicles, cinemometers or a breathalyzer, which help to offer a better service and has declared that "the Dénia Local Police force is an avant-garde exponent and a benchmark for others municipalities".

Tabernero has said goodbye in what will be the last official act before his retirement, dedicating a few words of thanks to his relatives –his wife, Antonia San Miguel, and their children, Alejandro and Marta– as well as their companions, Dénia Civil Protection and the authorities present.

For his part, the mayor, Vicent Grimalt, thanked the collaboration of the Local Police for "caring, helping and ensuring our well-being." Grimalt has celebrated the union of the concept of civility with that of security, an evolution of the term that, he assures, "also turns citizens into agents that promote a better society." In his speech, he wanted to highlight the importance of attention to hate crimes and gender violence, in addition to raising awareness and continuous training of "equality, inclusion and coexistence agents".

The Councilor for Citizen Protection, Javier Scotto, has reviewed the "meritorious work that the police do every day in the streets and events of our city."

The mayor has highlighted the "transversal and plural work of all the people who intervene in citizen security" and has affirmed that "without security there are no rights or freedoms", for which reason "the value of security is what moves [the Municipal government]".

Volunteer Awards

The Department of Citizen Protection has thanked the dedication of the voluntary associations. The current head of the Volunteer Association, Javier Ygarza, has received the ANAV medal in the bronze category with a white badge "for his seniority, merit and perseverance". Eugenio Tortosa, former head of the Dénia Volunteer Association (AVD), has been awarded the ANAV cross in the bronze category for his work.

The Dénia Volunteer Association wanted to recognize the work of the Local Police with a plaque delivered to Andrés Tabernero, representing the body. The group has also highlighted the work of Carlos Nieto, chief inspector, head of the National Police station in Dénia.

Civil Protection members Rosa Martínez, Alba González, Samuel Abad and Héctor Pérez were recognized with the ANAV medal, in the bronze category with a white badge.
The active and altruistic collaboration with the Local Police of Catalina de Francisco, the National Police of the Citizen Participation group, was also recognized; Augusto Antonio Campos, first chief of the Civil Guard, responsible for the arms intervention department of Dénia; Aitor Campos, member of the Brigade of the Third Emergency Intervention Battalion of the Jaime I de Bétera military base; Ana González, administrative assistant of the Denia Local Police; María Dolores Guntiñas, Head of the Interior and Civil Protection Service; and Jorge Fernández, Dénia Local Police Officer, with honorary metopas.

In addition, 14 members of the police were publicly congratulated for meritorious actions, such as the investigation and dismantling of a workshop dedicated to the falsification of vehicle documents in Altea; the rescue of a minor with symptoms of drowning; the action in the accident between a car and a bicycle; the rescue and resuscitation of a drowning person; or the arrest of a man for attempted robbery of a moped.
