Last Tuesday, January 11, Francesc Colomer, regional secretary for Tourism, delivered the distinctive that accredits Dénia as a Tourist Municipality of the Valencian Community. The person in charge of receiving it was Vicent Grimalt, mayor of the municipality.
In this way, Dénia joins the destinations of the Valencian Community of Benidorm, Valencia, Gandia, Benicàssim, Cullera, El Campello, Peñíscola and Calp that have met the new metric of the tourist municipality model, in accordance with the Tourism, Leisure and Hospitality Law and the decree that regulates the incorporation into the Law of the new Statute of Tourist Municipality.
In the ceremony of delivery, the regional secretary recognized the effort of Dénia to overcome all the demands of the new statute of the tourist municipality and highlighted "the enhancement of exemplary work and the effort of the tourism sector of Dénia".
On the other hand, Colomer highlighted: «The reconceptualization of the tourist municipality supposes a paradigm shift, a real and clear commitment to values and principles that should really define our destinations. Now conscious, dynamic and committed to transformation destinations are rewarded and recognized, which meet qualitative criteria, beyond quantitative ones and where the weight of tourism is evident in their society and economy.»
For his part, Vicent Grimalt stated: «This support has as a counterpart our commitment to issues such as sustainability, quality or citizen participation in the design of our tourist destination».
Significantly On December 17, Decree 203/2021 of the Consell came into force, which modified Decree 5/2020, of January 10, regulating the statute of the tourist municipality of the Valencian Community. This was published in the Official Gazette of the Generalitat Valenciana on December 29, 2021.
This modification of the Decree has been carried out with the main objective of make the criteria for the recognition of the status of tourist municipality more flexible, so that this recognition can be extended to a greater number of municipalities in the Valencian Community.
The modification has also added the diversification into three categories: tourist municipality of excellence, tourist municipality of relevance and tourist municipality of singularity, in compliance with article 29 of the Tourism, Leisure and Hospitality Law. This indicates: "The statute of the tourist municipality may diversify the condition of tourist municipality by virtue of the degree of compliance with the established criteria and obligations." Likewise, the form of compliance with any of the required obligations has been specified.
