Dénia recognizes the work of women who have dedicated their lives to the sea

The City of Dénia hosted, last Saturday, March 10, the institutional act of Women's Day. An act in which the honorees were the women who have dedicated their lives to the sea, granted "for the dedication to the marine world for many generations, especially for its initiative, the ability and effort, often little visible, that have contributed so much to the development of traditional activity, combining domestic tasks with jobs related to the sea and taking care of of the essential daily efforts to sustain the family livelihood ".

Ana Aulet and Marisa Moreno, representing the collective, picked up from the mayor, Vicent Grimalt, and of the Councilor for Equality, Elisabet Cardona, and in the presence of the senior patron of the Fishermen's Association of Dénia, Juan Antonio Sepulcre, the diploma of recognition for women of the sea.

With this distinction, from the City Council "we wanted to make visible the importance of these women in the fishing sector and their impact on others such as economic, social or family, recognizing the outstanding role they play in all activities related to fishing" , as recognized by the councilor for equality, Elisabet Cardona.

The senior patron of the Fishermen's Association of Dénia, Juan Antonio Sepulcre, highlighted the work of these women at home and at work, leading the administration of the boat and dealing with paperwork with banks; the hips, "that repaired networks in long working hours"; the owners, those women who, when the boat arrives at the port, help to put the fish in boxes and take it to the auction and they are in charge of managing the solution to any problem the boat may have so that the next day everything is ready to go out to fish; also the women who work in the Pòsit administration, those who sell the fish in the fish market and in the market or the ladies of the Mare de Déu.

Ana Aulet served as spokesperson for the group, vindicating the work of some women of whom she highlighted "his spirit of sacrifice, his courage, his courage, his strength, his dedication" and he thanked them publicly "his legacy, for opening the way and guiding our steps".

As usual every year, during the institutional act, the Women's Day manifesto was read, prepared by the Consell de les Dones de Dénia. A manifesto that, in addition to claiming real equality, wanted to recognize "to women who, with their courage, have vindicated and achieved basic rights for women such as access to education, culture, work or politics".

The document was read by representatives of associations that are part of the Consell: UNED, Matria Associació de Dones, Xarxa de Dones, Housewives, UGT, CCOO, Women's Center and the council president and Councilor for Equality, Elisabet Cardona.
