Dénia rejects homophobia towards Javier Scotto by a member of the Local Police

January 26 from 2018 - 08: 54

The plenary session of the City council of Dénia showed, of unanimous way, its rejection to the samples of hatred by sexual identity shown towards the councilman Javier Scotto by a member of the Local Police Corps. The events took place in the ordinary session of the month of December, held on 28 day, when the policeman appeared in the plenary room with a shirt that could be read "Mar i cona".

Although his stay in the room was brief, some of the people present were able to read the "message" of the shirt, and the small print that entailed. And, apparently, this policeman, a union representative, has had a heated confrontation with the Councilor for Public Safety and the Mayor of the Local Police, José Martínez Espasa, for months.

These facts generated that the January plenary session approved, by way of urgency, a motion condemning the events and read by the mayor, Vicent Grimalt. In it he remembered "to reject any type of act or manifestation of discrimination in the face of sexual identity and any other kind of persons in Dénia, La Xara and Jesús Pobre".

The motion agrees "to denounce any manifestation in which words are spoken, make signs or concepts offensive to respect and dignity are poured out to the members of the Corporation or any other person or entity in the plenary session".

From the City Council, Dianense citizens are urged "to fight and denounce homophobic and discriminatory situations in any of its manifestations, corresponding to the City of Dénia continue to implement equal social policies, so that this is a society free of all sexual discrimination".

The affected councilor, Javier Scotto, thanked the plenary for unanimous support on this occasion, stating that "I am in a terrible situation, and my language is dressed in my heart to thank the support of the corporation and different social and institutional spheres".

But Scotto wants to go further and reflects that "We must perform self-criticism to understand why a person reaches the reprobable situation of the last 28 day of December, and it is because today improper principles and values of a progressive and plural society circulate".

Later, through his profile on social networks, Scotto stated that "I have had to fight to be myself and to be respected, and they again attempt against my dignity. Even so, I still believe in the plurality of Dianense society, and the firm will of the government team to put an end to those who want to establish social differences".

Scotto ended by adding that "I want to express my pride and esteem for the staff of the Dénia Local Police, the actions of an individual do not represent the principles and values of the entire Headquarters", and that it will take legal action against the local police.

    Shame and sadness

Of course sad that I put this news. We are still in the last century. This is not resolved. The insult to Javier is made to all my gay friends who are numerous in Denia. Let's see if we have to talk more about tolerance than about gastronomy in Denia.
