The vice mayor, Rafa Carrió, has pointed out that these are budgets "that help the economic recovery of the city and complete projects that have been started, aimed at improving people's daily lives." following policies to combat climate change; efficient management of resources and facilities; economic promotion policies; and maintaining the commitment to the EATIM of Xara and Jesús Pobre to facilitate the greatest possible self-government," Carrió pointed out.

Citizen projects

The councilor of Territory and Urban Quality and spokesperson for the PSPV, Maria Josep Ripoll, has stopped to explain some of the main investments planned for 2024. The rehabilitation of the Torrecremada building, work already underway co-financed by the Dénia City Council and the Generalitat Valenciana, which is scheduled to be completed this year and to which the denier budget allocates 868.341,56 euros in 2024, it is one of the largest.

Projects selected by citizens in last year's participatory budgets have also been provided with a budget item, such as the creation of a pedestrian route on the slopes of Montgó; improvements to the Mountain Well road; the reform and renovation of the playgrounds at the Health Center and Chabàs Park, which will become a specific park for boys and girls from 0 to 3 years old, and the creation of open multi-sports courts in the urban area, added Ripoll.

Install shades and fountains in the city's playgrounds, a project that emerged within the Local Council for Children and Adolescents; the investment of 70.000 euros in a self-cleaning sink proposed by the municipal group Gent of Dénia and the redevelopment of Sagunto Street, with a subsidy from Next Generation European funds, are other actions included in the 2024 budget.

With co-financing from the Alicante Provincial Council, within its Plan Plan, the redevelopment projects for Elche Street and different streets in the Las Rocas neighborhood will be drawn up.

Second home

The budget also includes an item destined for the construction of the second residence for the elderly in the city, with funds from the Pla Convivint of Social Services Infrastructures 2021-2025 of the Generalitat Valenciana, funded by the Next Generation Funds of the European Union . The drafting of the project is about to be awarded – the councilor commented – and it is expected to put out to tender the works in 2024.

Within the Edificant Plan to improve educational infrastructure, the budget allocation from the Generalitat Valenciana is pending to carry out the construction of the new Raquel Payà special education school and the works at the Maria Ibars secondary school.

The investments that have funds from the regional government also foresee the recovery of two municipally owned homes to be used for families in vulnerable situations and to carry out photovoltaic installations at the Cervantes school and on the roof of the House of Culture.

Seriously €70.000 on a self-cleaning sink. Explain it better because saying that like that seems like an insult. We need public bathrooms in Dénia and of course remember not only the “Las Marinas Exist” center! «and put an end to so much «filth»

I repeat, EXPLAIN EVERYTHING BETTER WITH MORE TRANSPARENCY

  2. Maria says:

They should spend some of it improving Les Marines area by Punta Del Raset Beach, this area is so neglected and in desperate need of refurbishment. Not a good look for tourists visiting the city or locals to enjoy.

  3. Juan says:

Error or falsehood in the headline of the article, the city council does not invest 74,7 million, that is the total budget.
The real investment is 7,2 million out of a total budget of 74,7 million, which is 9,6%
Everything else is expenses (salaries, current expenses, etc.) that increase by 40% due to “inflation and rising prices” (annual inflation 2023 3,1% with an underlying inflation of 3,8%).
Where does our money go? Surely to cover unnecessary expenses, excessive staff and management inefficiencies.

  4. NinoP says:

    Heirs to the Botanic deception.
Mr Carrió, for you, improving the lives of citizens means raising the IBI for everyone equally by more than 10%? Is raising rates by more than 8%?
It is fantastic to lower the cost of building and renovation permits to encourage construction in a territory that is already drowned by cement and tourism without sufficient infrastructure.
Is it acceptable that in a City of barely 50.000 souls more than 38% of the budget, more than 25 million, goes to the salaries and wages of City Hall officials?
One more nonsense and shame from these so-called progressives who only impoverish citizens with hardly anything in return, and only think about making a city impossible to live in, designed solely for tourism.
