The next festivals from Dénia will arrive with big changes. One of his most well-known and controversial events, the Bous a la Mar, are going to undergo a radical modification. As this newspaper has learned, starting this July, bullfighting events will see their space in the Santíssima Sang programming greatly reduced.
It was something that could be seen coming, since the bullfighting celebrations in Dénia were accompanied by a certain discomfort and divided the population. However, since what happened last July, where one of the animals drowned in a celebration, nothing has been the same. It was not the first time it had happened, but on this occasion the commotion crossed all borders and what had happened was echoed even in the international media, leaving a very negative image of the city.
So much PSPV-PSOE as Compromís, formations that make up the current government, had been in favor of reconsidering the celebration. Even the mayor, Vicent Grimalt, He came to admit that a new direction had to be chosen to "evolve.". She did it during an interview with Radio Dénia, where far from avoiding controversy, he was forceful and assured that the current government team planned to put the issue on the table in order to reach the best election.
New era for the Dénia Festivities
The result has not been long in coming. The Festival Councilor, Raul Garcia de la Reina, has confirmed to Dénia.com that a meeting has been held with the agents involved to communicate the City Council's decision to reduce the bullfighting programming by half from this year. According to the councilor, the decision has been made for animal welfare issues and has confirmed that it is a political decision that the Dianense government team was already considering from the beginning.
Starting next July, the number of bulls that travel through Marqués de Campo and the port will no longer be three, but only the one on the first day of the festivities will be maintained. A single race. But the most significant change is the decision to completely eliminate the programming in the square at noon, leaving the afternoon passes as the only Bous a la Mar passes. That is, from now on there will be half of Bous a la Mar in Dénia.
