The Dénia City Council opens for the first time to discuss the future of the Bous a la Mar: "Life evolves"

August 30 from 2023 - 09: 55

It's been almost two months since the entire country witnessed the drowning of the bull in the Bous a la Mar de Dénia. An event that angered a large part of Spanish society, but which the municipality chose not to address. In fact, in all this time there has been no statement in this regard by the City Council. Until now.

This Tuesday, the mayor of Dénia, Vicent Grimalt, was interviewed by Radio Dénia to take stock of the summer. Having announced this week goodbye forever to the bou embolat celebration in El Verger, from the station they decided to return to address what happened in the Bous a la Mar, achieving Grimalt's first words about it.

The mayor of Dénia, far from shying away from the issue, was blunt and assured that the current government team plans to put the issue on the table in order to reach the best choice. Although Grimalt qualified that, in his opinion, the animal does not suffer the same in the bou embolat as in the Bous a la Mar, he did show himself willing to modify certain customs to avoid these events, because "life evolves."

  1. Marinhenses Anti-touradas says:

From Portugal, thank you very much for "the current government team plans to put the issue on the table in order to reach the best choice."

  2. Carlos says:

Stop spending public money on animal torture parties, spend it on other forms of culture and leisure, etc... and other priorities. Ban now or Consult now.

  3. Peter says:

Any other decision than to stop this awful event would be a disgrace for Denia.

    • Jopelin says:

      Using the translator
Çdo vendim tjetër përveç ndalimit të kësaj ngjarjeje të tmerrshme do të ishte një turp per Deninë.

  4. Felipe says:

We keep moving forward. Those who four days ago shouted "forbidden to prohibit" are putting on their boots. They are willing not to leave a puppet with a head: bicycles and scooters prohibited, campfires prohibited, bous prohibited, etc….

  5. Peter says:

Any other decision than to stop the Bous al Mar would be a disgrace for Denia.

  6. Leyre says:

Great news that they begin to consider it
It is time to start listening to and representing all those Dianenses, Alicante and Spaniards who are against animal abuse
Let's leave behind these types of customs that are not at all suitable for theoretically a "progressive and evolving society"

    • Raul says:

We must thank our masters for starting to consider it. Praise be to our politicians who let us breathe.

    • Albert Bernat i Ferrer says:

There is no reason or comment that can defend the indefensible. The bull is physically and mentally mistreated, when I refer mentally it is the physical stress that the animal suffers during the celebration.
Absolutely, my vote is that bous a la mar end, there are other alternatives to party without having to mistreat any living being.

      • Raul says:

I am not saying this from the point of view of defending bous a la mar, on the contrary. Read it again and you'll find out. It's all about having reading comprehension greetings.

  7. David says:

Vicent Grimalt, the municipality of Denia must evolve and leave behind the terrible images that it has starred in this summer when a bull died because of people who do not know how to have fun in any other way than throwing it into the sea
We must progress in animal matters!
    #NoMasBousALaMar

  8. Ester says:

YOU SHOULD NOT MODIFY IT, YOU SHOULD DELETE IT
ANIMAL ABUSE IS NOT CHANGED, IT IS ELIMINATED

  9. Pillar says:

It is quite worrying that they only deal with "parties yes or parties no", there are other priorities, political gentlemen. But of course 2 days with the news of the suspension in the Verger: Now we have to speak "well" of Dénia. PRIORITIES: cleanliness, lighting, noise, abandoned and occupied houses, smells of the PRECIOUS CONTAINERS that have been installed (but that's already they will have news by another way)…..A thousand things and what is worse PROMISES NOT FULFILLED

  10. Fernando says:

Make a real popular consultation. It's enough to impregnate everything with ideological sectarianism.

  11. It says:

A lot of blah blah from Mr. Mayor to make himself look good, but I'm sure that next year we will be in the same situation, if he gets the subsidies and the pocketbook, there will be boons to the sea.
Sad to play like this with animals and sad to deceive a people like this.

  12. Lina says:

Pepa Font went to a procession, the psoe released a statement.

A bull dies at a festival where the city council is responsible, where is the statement?

    The priorities…

  13. Victor says:

Now that the debate on lowering salaries opens

  14. Arthur says:

It is not necessary to modify anything, it is necessary to eliminate that ordinary celebration without foundation for no reason. that all it does is perpetuate social violence.

  15. Paco says:

    Good hours green sleeves.

What little forcefulness. And because they have taken it out with a corkscrew. I'm still waiting for a statement.

  16. Roy says:

How marvelous we now have a mayor who is an expert on animal welfare – Question for Grimalt – would you rather have a firework on your head or drown ! Simple question but probably not for someone as opinionated as yourself I suggest you sort out the mess Denia is in before giving views on subject you know nothing about along with many other things – and please don't reply with the usual expat rubbish I have lived in Spain for 20 years and while l find some of the traditions strange however l do except them for what they represent – but bull drowning is a step too far – barbaric

    • Jopelin says:

Zein zoragarria dugu orain animalien ongizatean aditua den alkatea! Grimalt-i galdera: nahiago zenuke su artifizial batek burua jotzea edo itotzea? Galdera sinplea, baina ziurrenik ez zu bezain burugogorrentzako. Gomendatzen dizut Denia dagoen nahastea konpon dezazula ezer ez dakizun gai bati buruz eta beste gauza askori buruz zure iritzia eman aurretik, eta mesedez, ez erantzun bizi izan dudan ohizko atzerritarrez. 20 urtez Espainian eta tradizio batzuk arraroak iruditzen zaizkidan arren, ordezkatzen dutenagatik salbuesten ditut –baina zezenak itotzea urratsegia da–, barbaroa.

      • Carmelo says:

Jopelin, Guztiz ados zure iruzkinarekin, nahiz eta hasieran denbora pixka bat behar izan nuen ulertzeko
        Luckily the translator works.

  17. Álvaro says:

Let's hope that a logical solution is reached, which would be to ELIMINATE THE BOUS A LA MAR in the municipality, since society evolves and "traditions" have to adapt to that evolution, we cannot stay anchored in the past
There are many ways to have fun without having to exploit animals
This summer we have seen shameful images related to bullfighting in general, such as those experienced in Denia when they DROWNED a bull and we hope that it does not happen again and that this activity is not carried out again, just as I hope that from the government of Denia be brave to advance in animal welfare

  18. Dani says:

Bous a la mar have to be preserved.
That the bull suffers is bullshit.
They have to kill him anyway, man needs meat to feed himself.
But the rest of the bullfighting festivals have to be prohibited.

And football and Holy Week also have to be prohibited.
Spain has to be a Democratic Republic.
    A country like North Korea.
