Dénia closes access to the castle this week

Actúa Servicios y Medio Ambiente SL, the new concessionaire company in the field of clearing, maintenance and conditioning of municipal public areas, began last Wednesday, November 2, the sanitation actions of the wooded areas of the Dénia Castle.

With the signing of the contract on October 27, the company undertakes, for a period of two years, to carry out maintenance work with an award budget of 181.016 euros. The actions have begun on the west side of the monument to continue next week on the north face.

The new contract has expanded the maintenance areas, incorporating the curve of San Nicolás, part of the Bosc de Diana, the northern slope of the castle, the Lletsó-La Siesta area, the Aldebarán green area, Mar Cantábrica street and Calle San Vicente de la Roqueta; as well as the frequency with which the cleaning tasks will be carried out.

It is stipulated that the vegetation of public green areas may not exceed 30 centimeters in height. Always taking this condition into account, the green area of ​​the municipality has been divided into three large zones to determine the frequency of cleaning.

Areas where there is native vegetation, with or without ornamental value, to be conserved and those without vegetation of interest that must be eliminated. A minimum of 2 clearing jobs per year will be carried out (castle, Torrecremada or Calle Donzella, for example).

Areas where there is no vegetation with ornamental value or it exists in an isolated form. A minimum of 3 clearing jobs per year will be carried out (Riu Gallinera street, El Palmar and the Llac Sanabria area, for example).

Areas where there is ornamental vegetation from plantations, with or without street furniture. A minimum of 6 clearing jobs per year will be carried out (part of the Bosc de Diana or the curve of San Nicolás, for example).

Treatment of the processionary

Parallel to these actions, tomorrow, Tuesday, November 8, fumigation will begin to avoid colonies of processionary caterpillars that can affect the castle's pines. For this reason, the monument will remain closed to the public between Tuesday 8 and Friday 11 November. These works will be carried out by the concessionary company in terms of tree maintenance: the Temporary Union of Companies formed by Fénix Poda SL and Manten Garden SL

Phytosanitary work is also being carried out in the public schools of the municipality. The treatment for the prevention of the appearance of colonies in the pines began last Friday, November 4. In this case, endotherapy is applied, a chemical product is injected into the trunk of the pine trees.
