The Councilor for the Environment of the Dénia City Council, Sandra Gertrúdix, together with the delegate of the province of Alicante from Lokímica laboratories, Lidia Najar Selles, presented at a press conference on the morning of October 30, the actions being carried out. carried out, on a scheduled basis throughout the year, in the city, for pest control.

Sandra Gertrúdix has announced that the City Council works throughout the year on a scheduled basis to control pests in the town and that Lokímica, the company in charge of the service, carries out disinfestation, deratization and disinfection actions in the sewers and underground containers as well as in municipal spaces and buildings, and fights against the proliferation of mosquitoes and processionary.

According to the Councilor for the Environment, treatments in the sewage and underground containers, as well as in the pipicanes, in the eight areas of Dénia, are carried out quarterly with the following periodicity: February, May, August and November.

In the buildings, municipal spaces and schools belonging to the Denia City Council, action is also carried out on a quarterly basis, carrying out deratization, disinfestation and disinfection services, in the months of February, May, August and November.

In relation to the mosquito control work, Sandra Gertrúdix has stated that Lokímica is responsible for the monthly surveillance and control, in Dénia, of these insects from May to October in the cataloged outbreaks of the municipality, in addition to monitoring legionella, both in the city and in public buildings. In addition, as Gertrúdix explained, the pest control company is also going to hold talks in schools and associations, to raise awareness among the population.

Regarding pest control in social gardens, both urban and school, the councilor has emphasized a series of tips to avoid mosquitoes and especially the tiger mosquito, such as avoiding the accumulation of water, both rain and risk, in containers, or spending as little time as possible in the gardens at dawn or dusk, among others.

Finally, Sandra Gertrúdix and Lidia Najar have commented that for the celebration of Tots Sants, leaflets will be delivered to the cemetery with recommendations to control and avoid the tiger mosquito in the cemetery, since on those days many people about changing the water in the vases.

Cemeteries are places with a high risk of the presence of tiger mosquitoes, and to avoid the breeding of larvae, the City Council recommends that stagnant water be removed from the containers, since they are places where said insect lays its eggs. Instead, it is recommended to use both dry and wet pouches to maintain humidity and prevent the proliferation of tiger mosquitoes.

In the treatment against mosquitoes, according to Lida Najar, citizen awareness is very important, and that neighbors can also collaborate by informing the Dénia City Council, when they detect that there are accumulations of water, when they are large to prevent the proliferation of common mosquitoes, and when they are small accumulations of water to prevent the reproduction of the tiger mosquito.
