Revenue from Dénia's nightclubs grows in a weaker summer for tourism

24 September 2023 - 08: 40

Is tourism in Dénia experiencing a paradigm shift? A few weeks ago we published in this newspaper the hypothetical tourist scenario led by the nightlife offer, projected based on a greater presence of this consumer during the summer. Now, however, the hypothesis is reinforced after knowing the economic data that the last high season has left in the city.

Each summer that passes there is an increase in the presence of young visitors who arrive tempted by private nightlife offers. These offers project an unreal image of Dénia, but they have caught the attention of groups of friends who want to spend a few days here to relax, or celebrate a farewell or birthday. Here they rent a cheap apartment in residential neighborhoods for days, buy food and drinks at the supermarket to save on the restaurant and the first round of the nightclub, and go out once the dance floor opens or, at most, to rest on the beach. . It is tourism based on this type of leisure.

Until now, this growing trend was only intuited by seeing more hustle and bustle in non-tourist neighborhoods and more complaints from neighbors. But, after the businessmen's own assessment of the summer, it can be confirmed that it has been a good summer for the nightclubs, which have seen their income increase while the other companies exposed to tourism decreased. Now, not because a new tourism model has been imposed, but also because the one we already had could have changed its customs.

More than a new tourism, new customs

The Association of Hospitality and Tourism Entrepreneurs of the Marina Alta has confirmed to this newspaper that this summer has been a little weaker than previous ones. However, they assure that the data is not at all worrying, since those registered in 2022 or 2021 were unrealistic due to the post-pandemic rebound effect, or because the tourist with the most money opted for national destinations unlike other years.

Now, nightlife companies have seen revenue increase, which AEHTMA attributes more to a change in the social customs of families than to a change in the tourism model. In fact, the association defends being contrary to what they call "wild tourism." "We don't want bachelor parties," they have told the members.

In any case, tourism in Dénia remains in good shape although without having been able to repeat the figures of the post-pandemic rebound. Nightlife, for its part, has emerged stronger from this period, achieving a great summer in terms of income.

During the Pandemic, people began to consume leisure like beasts, I suppose they were afraid of dying, now this collective histrionics is being normalized to pre-pandemic levels. They also bought properties to speculate on them for tourism and now they are starting to eat them with potatoes.

Serious problem, “tourism rampage” in addition to being less profitable and favoring illegal rentals, scares away quiet and family tourism, which is what I think has always interested Dénia.
This type of “tourism” only alters coexistence, increases dirt and insecurity.
If a nightlife offer is necessary, of course!, but without lack of control, with limited entertainment venues and in areas where the inconvenience to the rest of the neighbors, local and foreign, is minimal.
How we continue like this... turn it off and let's go, although those who govern us in this City seem to care little and, as always, look the other way.

We need quiet, quality tourism, not just spending a weekend and renting houses with a tourist license, promoting Denia as a city with a lot of history, its old town, its streets (which should have a good presentation), and not only apartments on the beach. Denia lacks aesthetics that with little money you can achieve
