Advice from the Department of Health of Dénia to prevent otitis

August 22 from 2018 - 03: 04

In summer it is a favorable time for many to suffer from otitis, given the continuous contact we have with the water, either through showers, bathing in the sea or in swimming pools.

For the prevention of this disease that is quite annoying especially in children and elderly, from the Department of Health of Dénia is recommended to take precautions.

Tips to prevent otitis

Better to bathe in the sea than in the pool.

In the pools the microbes are staying in the water, since in some cases they are resistant to the purification systems. The most common, and which causes infections in the outer ear, is Pseudomonas.

Avoid bathing in unhealthy waters.

Polluted waters are conducive to the appearance of germs that can cause ear infections.

Discard the pools with excess chlorine.

The chlorine in the pool increases the chances of external ear infection, although salt water from the sea, which we must ensure is as clean as possible, can also cause the same effect.

Dry your ears well after bathing.

Once out of the water, dry the ears well with the tip of the towel, turning the head to one side to remove any liquid from the inside. This will prevent moisture from causing fungi or infections and generating water plugs.

Do not use the ear swabs.

Using swabs to clean the ears can cause the creation of plugs. The ear has a natural cleaning system that is affected by the use of cotton buds.

Following all of these recommendations minimizes risks, although they are not always sufficient. In the case of persistent pain and / or fever, it is necessary to see a doctor to assess the case and prescribe the appropriate treatment.
