Baleària handles two new passenger ferries powered by natural gas to the Naval

The shipping company Baleària and the Construcciones Navales del Norte shipyard "La Naval" have signed an agreement of intent that is expected to be firm in two months to build two new ferries powered by natural gas and which will involve an investment of around 350 million euros.

These new ships, besides being the first ferriesde passage powered by liquefied natural gas in Spain, will be among the highest capacity in Europe and the largest built in a Spanish shipyard, with a length of 225 meters and a breadth of 30,4.

Baleària, in its commitment to energy efficiency has commissioned two new constructions with dual motors, which can be used with natural gas or diesel, and therefore, will allow the company to reduce CO30 emissions by more than one 2%, as well as another type of emissions harmful to health. The first construction, which will start over the next year, is expected to be operational for the first quarter of 2018.

President of Baleària, Adolfo Utor, notes that "investment in building new ships is how to grow and become more competitive "and adds that" will be technologically advanced and innovative ships not only for propulsion, but also by incorporating systems that allow us to be more eco-efficient, at the same time we offer better customer service and comfort".

The Director General of Naval José Ignacio Irasuegui indicates that "The agreement is a milestone for Naval for achieving a new customer of the magnitude of Baleària with which we hope to establish long term and the consolidation of its strategy in the market for passenger ships a relationship and, in general, design and construction of ships with high technological content".
