Alex Pella and caring for the environment, protagonists on the second day of the Dénia Boat Show

28 2018 April - 18: 02

The second day of Boat Show Dénia has begun with the talk of the oceanic sailor, Alex Pella. "We are lucky to have Alex Pella, who in each edition of our room, tells us his latest experience", said Gabriel Martínez, director of Marina de Denia.

55.000 miles in 14 months, "Almost two rounds of the world in a very beautiful and very intense year"commented Pella. The last record of Alex Pella has been to break the record of the Route of the Tea, a historical route initiated by the Spanish expedition of Elcano, in 1522, from Seville to the Philippines. The Hong Kong-London record follows the path followed by the clippers that transported tea from China to England in the second half of the 19th century. "During the whole trip I remembered a lot about this expedition of 500 years ago", highlights Pella.

"The big problem with the records is to decide when you take the start. We had a problem since a piece was broken and we were unemployed for a week. This generates a lot of stress since we had a very good weather window. The departure was from the China Sea, for me a new experience, a very beautiful sea since it is navigated without a wave and there is a lot of merchant ship traffic. After the Indian Ocean, it had been a reverse month ago. And the arrival at the famous London Bridge was very emotional ", Pella told.

After the talk, the release of a loggerhead turtle recovered in the ARCA of the Oceanogràfic Sea has been made, before the gaze of dozens of spectators who have witnessed the emotional moment aboard a catamaran, in the Marine Reserve of Cabo de San Antonio. The intake of plastics and accidental capture by fishing nets, are some of the most common causes of entry of sea turtles in the ARCA recovery center of the Oceanogràfic Sea, which attends animals stranded along the coast of the Valencian Community rescued by the Network of Strandings of which it is part together with the Ministry of Agriculture, Environment, Climate Change and Rural Development and the University of Valencia. Respect for the environment and the protection of the marine environment are also fundamental for the organization of the Dénia Boat Show, according to Gabriel Martínez, director of Marina de Dénia.

Visitors to the room have also been able to enjoy the rescue drill, performed by Helimer-Sasemar helicopter.
