OPINION Vicent Grimalt, mayor and councilor of Tourism of Dénia

Today, September 27, we celebrate World Tourism Day with our gaze focused on the motto of the World Tourism Organization: 'Green Tourism and Investments'. A call to action because the international community – governments, administrations, financial institutions and the private sector – unite in a new tourism investment strategy based on sustainable development and aware of the role that tourism plays in the social balance, environmental and economic.

What solutions and policies can be applied by governments to ensure a sustainable future that remains competitive and favorable for people and the planet?

We have given you a repte and an opportunity that the city of Dénia is not going to let go of. In fact, we have to work on strategies and public policies aimed at achieving a city model in which development is embraced by sustainability, people and well-being at the centre.

In the tourism field, we have worked on the Destination Tourism Sustainability Plan (PSTD) of the city of Dénia: a program whose objective is the transformation of tourist destinations into a model based on environmental, socioeconomic and environmental sustainability. territorial, both the ODS and the eix. The Dénia PSTD includes a total of 13 actions, the execution of which will be financed entirely by Next Generation EU funds with a budget of 3 million euros.

These actions designed by the Dénia City Council pivot around four goals: the green and sustainable transition, the improvement of energy efficiency, the digital transition and competitiveness.

Així mateix, we created the Tourism Sustainability Plan “Gastronomy: recipe for a sustainable future / #TastingLife”, validated by the economic, social and political agents of the city, which will allow sustainable gastronomy and the Mediterranean diet to be placed in the right place. of the evolution of the city's tourism model and in which local products and producers play a special role.

In order to develop this local strategy, uniting it with the private tourism sector is crucial: to promote joint actions that favor sustainable economic development of the sector; to guarantee the conservation of the environment and the natural and cultural value of our territory; to promote the local community and events with the D * na Festival Gastronòmic, the “Bancalet” project of Ciutat Creativa, Dénia Festival of the Humanities or the promotion of employment in the sector; to establish channels of diversification of the local economy that preserve it from an excessive dependence on the tourism sector, totally unacceptable; To promote our local identity, which not only attracts tourists interested in unique experiences, but also strengthens the pride of our deniers and deniers cap to our destination.

We continue to advance on the path of sustainability - we do not mean anything else -, essential to achieve a balance between economic development and the preservation of the environment and one's own identity.

Comments
  1. It says:

Mr. Grimalt, the first thing to do is set a goal and answer a question, what type of tourism do we want?
A quiet family tourism and good coexistence? Or, on the other hand, a “tambourine” tourism of uncontrolled young people who have little respect and only care about having fun?
One is incompatible with the other and both, poorly managed and without clear plans, as you do, incompatible with our well-being.
Please less empty words, clear objectives and serious work without forgetting that your main responsibility is the Citizens of Denia and its city.
Stop demonstrating day after day that only what comes from outside matters and benefit those who put up with you and your partners in the City Council by paying abusive taxes in exchange for not a single social benefit.
Listen to the people and have some seriousness, respect and shame please.

  2. Hans-Joachim Kuhl says:

  3. Alberto says:

So many words to say nothing, an example of vacuities. Politicians continue to think that we are stupid to try to sell us that a paella is now “sustainable” and “eco-resilience”. And at 3 million it is cheap for us. The 3 come from your friend's Michelin stars or did you make it up?

  4. jot says:

First, fix everything that does not work in Denia for those of Denia, regular public transport, cleanliness at all costs, diversity of jobs, not all tourism. limit apartment rentals to 30 days maximum. as they are not tourist residences or hotels

  5. Joseph says:

Tourists are especially impressed by the beautiful, clean, potholed streets. Cars too.

    • Antonietta says:

      All the reason
Sustainable tourism with a dirty city, full of cars that have nowhere to park, beaches that are often uncleaned, and with the chaos of July and August when the population is x 4/5
and has no structures to accommodate. Sustainability for the pockets of some, yes.

  6. Pau (FR) says:

Mr. Mayor, you have absolutely forgotten your electoral promises and have sold yourself to the Gastromafia of your friends.
He completely forgets that he must legislate first for the good of his citizens and the well-being of this population,
Instead of entertaining and irrigating with public subsidies private businesses in this case of hospitality and hospitality that for decades were making gold.
They completely forget that the tourism industry has very little or practically no added value, creating low-skilled positions and miserable salaries.
He forgets that he promotes ruinous tourism in a town with one of the lowest gross incomes per inhabitant, but with a more expensive standard of living.
Mass tourism as we know it and sustainability are antonyms.

    • Raul says:

What are you going to do. That's why the tourism department has been chosen for him. Even without having studied tourism, it's the only thing he knows how to do, right? And not with very good results either.

  7. Luis says:

What do you say you're selling now? melons?

  8. a progress says:

    LONG LIVE PROGRESIA!!!!!!!!!

  9. Lluis says:

Lord Grimalt. They have to finish at once both the PIRATA APARTAMENTS. If we want quality tourism, it must be PRIORITY NUMBER 1 of this mandate, which will be positive to free up denier habitats

    • Josep Ivars says:

Just remember how the city and the beaches were with the PP and they want to burn this town hall full of riffraff, starting with the scoundrel of the mayor who the first thing he did in the previous legislature and in the first plenary session was to raise 30% ek salary.
      SCOUNDREL.

  10. Uncle gilito says:

What to expect from someone who, the first thing he does as soon as he enters his new job, raises his own salary?

The mayor with a pocket full of money, while Dénia is upside down in a miserable state.

He only works to stay in power. Some of us have already realized the deception, others do not want to see it and will try to defend it even if it harms them. They are like the musicians of the Titanic. Those who defend the power that harms them. Now enjoy what you voted for.

Public management at any local level is absolutely precarious and disastrous. An absolute ruin that devastates Dénia day by day, irremediably plunging it into true misery.

I would like to say the opposite, reality is visible to everyone who wants to see it. They don't do a single thing well. It is truly incredible how little level these individuals contribute to Dianense politics.

    • Uncle Gilito says:

They only know how to chew lies, sell smoke, and manipulate with their empty words, lacking commitment. And totally contrary to the truth and reality of what they then do.
