Concern in the Dénia City Council for the future of the Raquel Payà Regional CEE

13 March 2024 - 13: 08

The students of the Raquel Payà Regional CEE need a new building in Dénia. The transfer of the classrooms to new facilities has been waiting for too long and when it seemed that everything was ready to create a new center, the City Council has encountered an unexpected obstacle: the silence of the Generalitat.

The project was already done, the new building was almost a reality and all that remained was to contract the works, but now the new Raquel Payà is once again left in limbo. The City Council confirmed it this Wednesday in a press conference in which the mayor, Vicent Grimalt, The deputy mayor, Rafa Carrió, and the councilor for Urbanism, Maria Josep Ripoll: They are worried about the project.

This concern is due to the lack of response from the Ministry of a modified credit that has been requested to adapt the project to the new prices and be able to move it forward. The Dénia City Council affirms that they need the 2 million that have been requested to pay for the works, since, due to inflation in all materials and labor, with the budgeted item the construction could not come true as planned. "Prices have increased and it is not enforceable," stressed Councilor Ripoll.

However, this budget modification has not yet been authorized. In fact, no response has been obtained. "I don't understand how it takes them so long to authorize or tell us no," criticized the mayor. Now, despite the unrest that they do not hide, they want to be optimistic because Carlos Mazón himself committed to the project during his visit to Dénia last December, and even a first meeting was held with the General Director of Infrastructure to advance. But on February 28, a new meeting with the General Directorate was requested to unblock the work and they still have not received a response.

Once they obtain that credit, all that remains is to contract to carry out the works, says Ripoll, so everything depends on the Ministry. At the moment, the Raquel Payà students are still in a building where not all of their special needs are covered, where the space also ran short a long time ago because it is a regional coverage center.
