Pepa Font outlines her vision for a more open Dénia port and distances herself from the autonomous port: "It is not as beautiful as it seems"

14 December 2023 - 18: 21

As part of the traditional Christmas breakfast of the Party of Dénia with the media, the spokesperson and now Commissioner of the Generalitat of the Port of Dénia, Pepa Font, has offered his first statements about his role and has addressed the future of the local maritime environment.

Distancing himself from the positioning of the parties during the last legislature, Font has rejected the idea of converting Dénia into an autonomous port, a position that enjoyed unanimous support from the municipal groups of the previous composition of the City Council. The current popular spokesperson maintains that "the autonomous port is not as beautiful as it seems." In his words, the current dialogue with the Generalitat facilitates the achievement of port projects and management, in contrast to the perspective of being part of a committee with diverse representation, where the City Council would not have a majority vote and would be subject to the interests of private companies. .

The port that Pepa Font wants

Font's vision for the port of Dénia is that of a space open to residents and visitors, proposing a more accessible environment for the public. It advocates for a port that can be visited without obstacles or privatized areas, seeking to guarantee citizens' access to the sea. In this sense, she points out that the megayacht space next to the Museu de la Mar should be opened, advocating to give people access to the sea, although she recognizes the possibility of temporary restrictions during the crew's working hours.

Among its objectives is the improvement of the fish market and its surroundings, as well as the opening of the Nautical Club, with the aspiration of making the port of Dénia a more walkable space.

In a preview of the initiatives to be promoted, Font has announced the request for a budget item for the maintenance of green areas, including the pruning of palm trees, in order to beautify and preserve these spaces.

The port can now be walked everywhere. The only thing is that it has already reached its maximum capacity and we would have to think about expanding it. And establish 2 accesses: the Puerto Sur Access through Joan Fuster and the Puerto Norte Access through where the current one is.
