In the year 1992 the City of Dénia bet by the traditional and popular music and initiated the first edition of Music at the Castell With the aim of recovering popular music, support traditional music groups and learn about cultures.
25 years later, Música al Castell has become an inescapable date of summer in Dénia and has been positioned as one of the most important traditional music festivals in the country. In the summer of 2017, the festival is for anniversary. A quarter of a century of life and 26 editions deserve a celebration in the highest, taking into account that last year, in the twenty-fifth edition, the festival could not be held in its natural location, in the Esplanade of the Governor of Dénia Castle, Due to the rehabilitation works of the palace stairs.
All these reasons have led to the Department of Culture of the City of Denia has organized a novel and very complete programming for this summer, with change of date, merchandising and new proposals that will leave the Castle.
The first novelty lies in the Date change. If until now the festival was held on two weekends, this edition the performances meet in the same week. Thus, from the 20 to the 23 of July, to the 23: 00 hours, the performances will take place in the Castle.
Another novelty lies in the parallel programming of the festival, which has been called Festival Off. On Monday 17 of July will be a free concert of Paco Muñoz with Ina Martí and L'Apa, Album submission Friends. It will be at 23: 00 hours in the Plaza del Consell and the entrance will be free. The 18 of July, Tuesday, will act the Colla de Dolçainers i Tabaleters the Llebetjà Benitatxell. The performance, also free, will also be in the Plaza del Consell and will begin at 21: 00 hours.
To these concerts is added the animation in the street that will be the days of concert in the morning. The grouping Fem Band Will act 22 and 22 in July between 11: 00 and 13: 30 hours on Diana, Marqués de Campo and Plaza del Convento streets, while the Colla The Xareta Will do the same on 21 and 23 days of July.
Programming Music to Castell 2017
The festival concerts Music Castell Will begin on Thursday 20 of July with the performance of the Portuguese singer Misia, Which will offer a concert titled From the first fado to the last tango. On Friday, 21 will be the turn of Urbalia Rurana with From Tornada to les Ribes. Paco Valiente, director of the radio program The sounds of the blue planet, An expert in world music and an adviser to the festival, recalled that this Valencian formation has been linked to the festival since its first edition.
On Saturday 22 of July comes the flamenco proposal, this time with Antonio Canales and José Porcel. The bailaores will share their art with a flamenco painting in a show that links tradition and modernity.
Music performances at Castell 2017 will end on Sunday 23 July with the performance of Coetus and Carles Denia, Which will be accompanied by the Iberian Percussion Orchestra, formed by 18 musicians.
Ticket prices
All concerts will start at 23 hours. The price of the ticket is 15 euros (days 20, 22 and 23 of July), except for the performance of Urbàlia Rurana, which is 6 euros. Also will be put on sale a credit for the four concerts of the festival at a price of 45 euros.
Tickets can be purchased at Instanticket from June 1 and at Dénia Tourist Offices (Buigues Square and Plaza del Consell) as of July 1. There will also be box office sales two hours before each concert.
