The Archives and Libraries area of ​​the Dénia City Council has organized a new edition of the democratic memory days Memòria i futur 2024, presented this morning by the Councilor for Culture, Raúl García de la Reina; the municipal archivist, Rosa Seser and the head of the Library service, Llúcia Signes.

The conference, which began to be held in 2021, is part of a broader project developed by the Dénia City Council in recent years with the aim of "continuing to rescue from oblivion episodes of our history that, evidently, were attempted to be erased during the Franco era." and that, unfortunately, it still bothers today that too many people come to light," indicated the Councilor for Culture.

García de la Reina has stated that "we are living in a political moment that places the defense of democratic memory in full relevance" and has alluded to the "concord" law that is being processed by the current government of the Generalitat and that, in its opinion, "attempts to undo the path taken by the Democratic Memory Law, not only in terms of recovering the history of the victims, but also in terms of their dignity."

Furthermore, the councilor highlighted that initiatives such as these sessions allow progress in research and the discovery of new data.

Programming Languages

Programming begins on Wednesday April 24, with the projection of documentary Magpie, red hunter, directed by Pedro de Echave and Felip Solé, to the 19: 00, in the Dénia Library.

The documentary composes a portrait of Pedro Urraca, a Spanish police officer and Gestapo agent who led the persecution of numerous Spanish republicans exiled in France during the Nazi occupation, through the testimony of his granddaughter, Loreto Urraca, who will participate in the talk-colloquium What will happen to the projection.
