Maximum support of the Rotary clubs of the Marina Alta in the 'World Day to fight Polio'

At Hospital de Dénia , this Wednesday, we live in a special way the "World Day of the fight against Polio", thanks to the Rotary clubs of the Marina Alta; Denia, Jávea, Calpe, Benissa and Altea, who are in the hall of the hospital center giving information about this disease that is increasingly extinct in the world.

All visitors to the Hospital are invited to take a photograph in a p which is mounted, giving support to work that Rotary clubs do to eradicate polio in the world.

Campaign "Let's put an end to polio"

To inform about this campaign, an informative table has been held in which the Health Department Manager, Luis Carretero, spoke, who commented that, "We appreciate the altruistic work done by Rotary clubs for many years to eradicate this disease and I thank all those who work in campaigns like this".

The mayor of health of the municipality of Dénia, Cristina Morera, I support this campaign with your presence and it meant that, "eradicating polio is a challenge that is close to being achieved, for this it is essential to prevent through vaccination. It is necessary that citizens become aware of the importance of vaccination, not only for this disease without others. From the session the campaign that is presented has our full support".

Another participant in this presentation was Vicente Morera, Head of the program of public health flaccid paralysis, who explained that the disease is about to disappear, and explained the protocols that in Spain and the Department of Health of Dénia, It is performed when some cases of acute flaccid paralysis are detected, usually in people under 15 years.

For their part, Maribel Roselló and Luis Santos, presidents of the Rotary clubs of Dénia and Jávea, respectively, explained the great work done by Rotary clubs to eradicate polio. Since the 1985 year, the Rotary clubs of 125 countries have united around an international campaign to eradicate polio worldwide. Three years later, they obtained the support of the World Health Organization -OMS-, UNICEF and CDC Atlanta, with which a global initiative was created.

Before beginning this campaign, a thousand polio cases were declared per day in the world. Today, the disease is eradicated in most countries, with the exception of Nigeria, Pakistan and Afghanistan. In what we have of 2018, only 20 cases have been identified and circumscribed to the aforementioned countries in which war conflicts prevent giving a correct vaccination coverage to the population.

Dieter Moll, from the Benissa Rotary Club, and Dr. Pascual Martí, Director of Public Health of the CSP, were also present at this information table.
